A few questions regarding temps / pressures

Yeh thats what I was counting into the equation.

Figuring for a bit of "thermal loss" here and there, I feel that (provided the other components in the system are up to it) -35c evap temp should be achievable with a bit of luck.

My only real concern is whether I can obtain a small quantity of R404a here in the UK to charge the system with and play around with the charge, else Im going to be forced to run R290, which is going to reduce my capacity somewhat and most likely hamper my chances of seeing -35c. :(

There are lots of guys over there that do this. I'm sure one of them can hook ya up.
I would if you were close. I usually always have a jug of 404A with a couple of pounds in it for those after hours calls :)

Well, like I said earlier in the thread, I like to know how something works not just that it does. I also like to know why something affects something else, not just that it does.

Its much better to have a knowledge base that you can draw from to know why doing "xxx" will have the result of "yyy" instead of just knowing that it will "cos someone said so"

BTW, can anyone post a pic or something of what kind of schrader valve I need to solder / braze onto the suction line of my 1/12hp compressor to turn it into a vacuum pump, as I am unsure exactly which valve I need.

Actually I have an 80 watt compressor (sizing) that has a rated load at -20 for R134 of 100 w using R507 at the same temperatures I can get it to remove 145W. So your refrigerant is also determining factor..
