Try all cores +2 or +4.. ive found this to work on some mobos besides my M3A 79-t . My 720 runs in my Friends Giga no prob with the same settings my M3A wont run with while 4cores is enable. Sometimes you may need to reflash the Bios a second time if stuff is really wacky.

Ever since i flashed BIOSES about 120+ times on my Biostar TA770 .

Ive gotton used to the whole reset ,,power off ,,PSU power switch ,, juggling thing That Phenom Bioses do.

I tell ya B2 and the first pH! mobos were a great learning curve ,that is if ya have patience.

I can now reset in about 30seconds on any mobo when a Bios is buggy or chippy dont like what i do to it:rofl:

I just got the board today and I thought maybe it was just you having problems... I've only been playing with it for a few hours, but if it makes you feel any better I've had all kinds of trouble unlocking the 4th core on a known good 720be....

You really think sacraficing a goat might help? (Yes, I caught your message before the edit :rofl:)

It does look like GBT is trying to figure it out, which is a good thing, and the F4G bios seems to be getting close to running the 720 as an X4.....

I have alot of testing to do yet, but I thought I'd let you know your not crazy.

What is your opinion on the best Bios available?

F4A seems to be the best so far, but it won't even try to unlock the 4th core on the 720. :shakes:

LoL my mistake, I m thinking default voltage for imc is 1.3, like cpu, i m adding .175 to each, default is 1.2 so i m at 1.375 imc volts, and i bumped it up to 1.4 :) stable now :D

(about the goat) I sure hope so ...it seems that goats are easier to get then an unlocked 4th core on the X3 720 + UD4P

as for the bios, since I flashed to F4G I'm getting really weird BSODs ...at idle or stressed ...totally random
...1/2h OCCT test passed ok ...BSOD says IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL

I'm not sure what is causing this since one day before flashing to F4G I loaded the Vista image (Vista SP2 screwed
my installation) and could be problem with the image or maybe with the drivers ...anyhow, I had this board for
about 2 weeks without any BSODs or reboots so something is screwed up now:shrug:

I just Loaded up a New UD4P with My 720.
Im now going to do some Flashing . Making shure my Temps are Good.

15c @ Idle Stock clocks and Volts. This Award Bios is Night And Day over the M3A79-Tdeluxe. .

So far I just had to fiddle with the CCMOS juper - did you get any jumper with the board?

and random BSODs at idle and loads ...so far these reboots were always when the Reaper
ram is set to 1333 6-6-6-20@1.75v; with ram on auto (1066 7-7-7-16@1.6v) no BSODs so
far ...with 1 hour memory test no errors were reported and no reboots so theses BSODs are
possible just a f*up Vista installation (IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL and SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION
BSOD reports)

Guys,, make shure your NBvid is able to Raise the NB volts ..

I needed to be able to be @1.45Nbvid with this CPU for 3.9ghz or higher ,,but it seems on my UD4P the NBvid wont adjust up or down .

CPU Vcore works fine up to 1.79volts:D Im still playing around with the NBvid @ATM. Thats all i need to push this thing :yepp:

Low NBvid will cause ramdom BSOD's (Memory)if the NBvid is set to low when running above 3600mhz...With x3cores and x4cores.

Well, I'm running at stock speed for now, however, I do suspect that the F4G might undervolt the memory
or something similar. The system was fine at 1333 6-6-6-20@1.75v F3, few hours after F4G bios was loaded
the first BSOD happened...al this at stock speeds.

No I didn't get a jumper, the board doesn't need one, just take a little screwdriver and short the 2 pins to clear CMOS. I actually like it better than fumbling with a jumper. ;)

I was having all kinds of problems. Running as an X4 was out of the question and even running as X3 I got alot of the same errors you were talking about, random reboots, failure when idle etc... etc...

After alot of trial and error I think I figured out the main source of the problem...

The NBvid adjustment in bios DOES NOT WORK, and 1.2v just isn't enough to run as X4 or any reasonable OC on the IMC.

Going into AOD and raising the NBvid to 1.25 after booting has got it running much more stable in X4 mode, but I still haven't ran any serious stress test yet (10 minutes Prime 95 passed though).

The worst thing about that not working is the fact than I can't get anything more than 2200 on the IMC. If I go to 2400 it won't even make it into Windows so I can raise the NBvid.... It just locks up and I have to reset CMOS..... :shakes:

You would think with all the revisions to bios this would have been fixed by now.

If you read this chew* would you please ask them to fix this?

There are two NB voltage options in the bios for this board... are you talking about NBvolt or CPUNBvolts... as i was having the same probs as you, with anything X4 over 3.5, and any nb speed over 2200 as well. And i too cant get anything to register aside the bios that the nbvid has changed...but i m scared to change it in AOD incase it is at the volts i ve set it, and having AOD add more volts to that because its not registering the change.

villa1n: According to AMD Power Monitor and Everest the bios is not changing the CPUNBvid, the other NBvoltage is the chipset.

Heres a ss of AMDPM after I changed it to 1.30v with AOD. Reguardless of what I set it to in bios it was always 1.20v.

Wow, i will definately try that, what has me worried, is AOD is not reading my CPU voltage correctly either, it shows up as 1.3, but cpuid does pick up the correct voltage. Is there a way to permanently change those volts via AOD, or is always going to have to be set on reboot?

*seems AMDPM gives me a C++ runtime error on Windows 7 :( even in xp compatibility mode. Did everest reflect the change as well? heh, even worse is that i m trying to apply a 1.3 voltage, and AOD warns me , i press ok, and then just bumps it back down to 1.2, and everest seems to show no change, but i cant see in AMD PM as it wont run :(

The NBvid volt setting is the only hold back i see ATM. It seems locked to 1.2vid.

Tried my 9950 same thing. This bios could use a CPUvid and a working NBvid with adjustability like the UD5:D


Hahaa im temped to flash a UD5 Bios to this.
Ive done St..pid stuff with the K9neoF(flash PlatinumBios to run higher Volts) to run 6000+'s @ 3.5 and some other Mobos ive Flashed the unthinkable.

. As for the New ACC Firmware HYBRID option ,, that works just fine.

It seems that both F4G and F4A have problem with NBvid (AM3 - 790XT-UD4P board).

Since flashing to F4G I had BSODs when memory is set to 1333 6-6-6-20/1.75v
(all other settings at stock) and now with F4A the same thing happened. When
I ran F3B bios there were no BSODs....when I get back home I will probably flash
back to F3B to see if this will fix reboots.

As I mentioned all other settings except for ram are at stock, yet I get random
BSODs most of the time at idle ...when opening windows explorer or some similar
action?? ...could it be that trying to unlock the 4th core has damaged the cpu
or the IMC?

So far I have given up on the 4th core ...now I just want to have a stable system:mad:

Another question; which application can be used to raise the NBvid?

AMD Overdrive would not install on my Vista x64 (it did install on the backup XP though)
when the installer comes to the CustomLogo.exe part of the installation it just hangs.
Maybe a fresh install will solve this but for now I would prefer to iron out all the *bugs*
with the current installation.

Set perfromance mode NBvid to 1.30v's and powersaving mode to 1.25v.
It will apply the voltage as soon as Windows boots, just make sure you turn off CnQ and C1E in bios, as this utility will take care of it for you.

DL the "i386" version for 32 bit OS, or "AMD64" version for 64 bit.
It's a nice little utility and there is alot more info in the thread if you need it.

as far as I have tested it it does ...it works great
the only annoying thing not working is the cpu utilization gadget
the gadget works fine just the cpu speed is stuck at 2.8GHz, with
BIOS C'n'Q the speed changes accordingly

a quick update: raising NBvid to 1.25v idle and 1.3v load did not solve BSODs for me (F4G BIOS).
I just flashed back to F3 to see if BSODs will appear ...the problems started when I installed new
Vista image after SP2 fiasco, and a day later I flashed to F4g ...should have vaited

these were the BSODs I was getting with F4a and F4g bioses ...totally random ...usually at idle,
somtimes at load ... might be just some driver conflict

hrm, yeah that sounds like a hardware miscommunication, rather than a voltage error...

the bsod i was getting was
PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA, a classic memory bsod. maybe try Windows 7 ^^ i ve enjoyed it, the only issue i have is i bsod if i boot up with a WD external hd plugged in for some reason, not sure why, it seems to corrupt my boot up...maybe because i have images of other os's on it... and its reading it in bios as a usb boot up? dunno. hehe.

it might be that the drivers are in some sort of conflict, however, with F3 bios almost a day
has passed without any bsod ...might be that the memory timings are different with F4a and
F4g bioses.

about drivers, I was really annoyed with nVidia chipset drivers (coming from nForce 4 board),
but this AMD/ATI drivers are just a mess ...every chipset driver has CCC included as, as well
as video driver ...no wonder something migt be conflicting

what drivers need to be installed for the board 790X(XT) board:
- network driver (ok I know what these do)
- audio driver (as well as these)

- chipset driver/northbridge filter driver (is this the SATA driver?)
- I also found a southbridge driver (what is this driver for?)
