Very nice clocks with HT enabled!!!! I'm a bit suprised though that CPU clock is nearly the same as with HT disabled.

Regarding your focus on memory I read a news article yesterday about new modules from Mushkin in their High Performance products. Don't know exactly what speed they were rated but they had timings of 6-7-6-18-1T. Maybe they have some good IC's who can reach high speeds as well.

Yeah, I have to say that I was surprised at the HT on vs. HT off results as well. I expected to get at least another 70MHz to a 100MHz by turning off HT. Other than a slight voltage difference (lower) and additional 23MHz I could not get anything. 1MHz higher BCLK from 206 (HT on) or 207 (HT off) and I could not even load up Windows, regardless of the voltage. I messed around with a lot of settings like IOH/ICH voltages, clock skewing, etc., and nothing made a difference. I think that the chip is probably flaking out at this point. Quite likely more extreme cooling like Phase or LN2 would allow me to break through this barrier though I really do not have money for it :down:

One big downside is that like a lot of the i7 920s that do not like their stock 20x multiplier this chip also does not like its stock 22x multiplier. 21x is good, 23x is good but 22x requires substantially and unpermissibly more voltage to hit the same clocks. This leves me with a choice of running at 21x or 23x and 21x with my max BCLK maxes out way below my current OC.

In relation to the memory, I have to say that those are very impressive timings. I have always been a fan of Mushkin memory since I found that they are very reliable over long term in addition to overclocking decently. Coincidentaly I was just looking at their stuff yesterday but there was no mention of high performance sticks like the ones you have pointed out. Where did you read that article?

Thanks for your explanation on your OC efforts with HT on and off. Too bad your stuck with a max. bclk of 206. If I'm correct your using a R2E board but don't your think that a different board maybe could do the trick (e.g. DFI)?

Regarding your question about the memory. I read it on a dutch news site where you van choose different languages at the top of their website. But unfortunately the news items are not the same over all languages where dutch is the most extensive. Therefore Mushkin modules are not mentioned in English language. However you can find their specs and partnumbers in an overview (a picture is still multi-language). I have to admit that I'm not completely sure if they are available yet although the site mentions that they should be.

Heres some ideas to make money for a dice setup. Sell blood, sell body parts, sell your soul, put your kids to work for cheap labor in a factory. haha im jk, hopefully you can think of something to get the next step up in cooling to keep the competition on edge.

See, that's the thing...I'm not at my max BCLK. My max stable BCLK is 222MHz (reads as 220.82MHz max). However, when I use a high multiplier then I max out. This is why I am thinking that it is the chip and/or cooling rather than the board or anything else...

By the way, checked those Mushkin parts and they are not available yet but I guess they will be soon. They are very nice parts though. Mushkin Redline are their best parts, and they usually OC very well too. I think I will have to check those out over the Dominators especially when they release some with higher clocks, like 1866MHz or 2000MHz+.

It will be a bit, but I can wait :) I'lll have to look at something else for the competition though. I will try to juice up my modules in single DIMM combination with 1.9V DRAM and 1.65V QPI/DRAM (Vtt) and see if that gets me over 2000MHz. So far I can do 1975MHz in a single or dual channel combination.

Hey! Didn't know you were around these forums too. Just so used to seeing you around CoolIt forums :) Thanks for the props. I like to think this would not have been possible without the nice CoolIt products I have and the support I got from you guys in modding them :D

Hehe, well, overclocking I have been doing for a long time, but playing with funky cooling no, that's a new hobby :) I do have to say that it is pretty addictive. Having gone water and TEC now I am inclined to go higher, to phase, and even further. One step at a time. Kind of in the same boat as you. Girlfriend would kill me if I spread stuff all over the apt. :rofl:

hehe:ROTF: i figured that you had to have some sort of OC'n skillset to have the need to mod a coolit product (i have yet to meet someone that just wants to mod it for shxts & giggles) - & w/ the #'s you are posting...i tend to think that you have QUITE a few years under your belt...but like you said...one thing @ a time...i too feel it might be time to go higher...but also know that i have only touched upon some of the capabilities of a TE system...so.i prob will dabble for at least another year before going to the pot...copper pot that is:rofl:

Nothing like moving to the pot :p: All kidding asside, yeah, I've been doing OCing for a while (since 1996 actually :p:) but I never went into more "extreme" cooling (now days water is not exactly that extreme hence the quotes). At the time when I started OCing water cooling was really unaffordable and prone to problems, so unless you built your whole system from scratch and I mean literally built it there was not many options. Then I got busy with other things so I kind of stayed overclocking on air always. Now I have more time so I decided to get back into the game and try out some other things...

It is quite entertaining and I do especially enjoy building and modding things so this is great. And since I decided to break the bank and go i7 at launch I figured I may as well be a bit more vocal about it.

I do have a lot of other ideas that I want to explore in the TEC world as well, so yeah I'll take it slow but I will get to the really extreme stuff in time :)

Well, I'm a terrible photographer but I'll be posting a few pics of my rig, particularly while I was building my custom chilled water cooler :) Look for it today... The pics will have to be with a flash :eek: :p: since we basically have no daylight here in Vancouver due to constant low clouds and rain...

Me and some friends want to start experiment with a TEC on an old AMD rig. I have an old AMD 2200+ rig laying around here with some budget components but its a nice test subject to experiment with considering this will be our first confrontation with TEC cooling. It would be really great if you could describe some tips, advice or some critical comments to take into account along with the pictures.

Considering the memory modules, it's to bad that they will first become available at 1600Mhz or at least I think they will. Nonetheless these modules will certainly have some nice IC's on them because of their low latency. If your planning to buy some than I would like to know what results you're getting.

Well, my chilled water setup was built upon the CoolIt Freezone Elite TEC/liquid hybrid cooler. Basically, the system is liquid cooled meaning the liquid removes the heat from the CPU, but the TECs then remove the heat from the liquid and dump it onto a large aluminum block which is then cooled by air. I introduced a rad into the loop in order to pre-chill the coolant before the TEC chillers get to work on it as well, and a reservoir in order to provide more coolant volume, make the filling easier, etc. This setup allows me to generally keep sub-ambient coolant temperatures and it works very nicely. If you give it some fresh, non-recycled air then the system works very good and the coolant can be kept below 10C quite easily. In the future I will likely introduce more powerful TECs into the loop but at that point in time I would also need to find a better way of removing the heat dumped by the TECs out of the system. The current CoolIt block has its limitations and I am already considering of changing it up with something that has better fin density and a more streamlined design :D

The basic way my system is hooked up is like this TEC Chiller > CPU Block > Rad > Res > Pump > TEC Chiller. I found this works very well. See pics in the next post. They show you what I started with and what I ended up with. The big honking metal block with the two blue chambers on it is the TEC chiller. The TECs sit wedged between these blue liquid chambers and the large black aluminum block. There are two Ultra Kaze 3K RPM (fan controllers of course) pulling air from the front through the rad, and one 3K RPM Ultra Kaze pulling air through the aluminum block.

Edit: One critical thing that I forgot to mention is that you want to keep your system relatively low flow unlike with regular water cooling. If you keep it high flow then the TECs will not have enough time to chill the coolant before it moves on to the CPU block so you will result in higher instead of lower temps.

Edit 2: You also need to note that TECs require a lot of power. Say you got a 220W, 12V TEC...it would need to be powered by a 12V rail capable of delivering 18.33A so this is a big drain on the system power. You will want to make sure that you have a good high amperage PSU, and ensure that you always have enough amps available on the given 12V rail (harder to do on single rail PSUs since you have to account for all other components).

Yes, they are not very good but whatever, I am not a photographer lol :D

You will notice in the second row of images in the last photo that I have an 80mm fan over the NB heatsink. I grabbed this from an old AMD CPU cooler and it works very well to provide some active cooling to the NB. The resulting NB temperatures dropped by 15C-17C from 55C-57C under load to 40C under load. Also, I originally ended up mounting the res pointing outward but this was creating problems when adding a second video card so I moved the res inside the case 90deg to the case wall. Hence the reason why it is not visible in the later photos.

Feel free to ask for more detailed pics of components if you are interested. By the way, this is all fitted internally in an Antec 900. There is nothing on the outside of the case so it looks very clean.

On a different note, I tried pushing my DRAM past 1975MHz. In dual channel I can do 1975MHz with 9-9-9-20-1T timings or around there but basically not a MHz faster. I even loosened the timings further, increased the voltage to 1.65V QPI/DRAM, and 1.95V DRAM with no improvement. More juice just does not mean more clock speed. I think these ICs just won't go higher. Not shabby though for 1600MHz rated DRAM but not worth mentioning here I think...

I have 2000MHz memorys but it is tricky or even impossible to run them stock (9-9-9-27, 2000MHz). Do I have to increase QPI/Dram over 1.5V and Dram above 1.65V to manage it? It seems to be freq. who stop me not timings.....
ATM I run them 1800MHz 8-8-8-20, QPI/Dram 1.4V, Dram 1.65V
