Although I have noticed some odd lighting issues in Left 4 Dead and it stutters unless multi core's disabled w/ the latest drivers. So it's not a perfect green pasture. :D

What happened to the apparent certainty of "yesterday" that RV790 was made on TSMC 55GT, not 40GP?

The stuttering is fixed in the next NVIDIA driver.

What lighting issue do you see?

Yes. In COD4 and Farcry2. Both are fixable using tweaks, but it's nice not to have to fish around for that stuff.

Awesome. The game used to run better on my 4850 until I turned off multi core. Now's it's almost as smooth, but prettier.

The lighting issue happens w/ flashlights in dimly lit rooms. It's most noticeable on map 5 of Blood Harvest when you're in the corner of the house by the gun cabinet, ammo, and health packs. The light seems to unrealistically shine on edges wo/ fading properly. It's fixed by turning off the flashlight, but I do not recall this happening on the ATI card.

i agree with this, several months back i bought a 4870, then two 4850's, and i had nothing but driver issues. the shadows would flicker in crysis and assassins creed, crossfire wouldn't always initialize on startup, and all of my source based games would randomly freeze. i've got my 9800GX2 back in my rig and everything's fine.....

but as for the topic of this 4995X2... what would be the point? i don't see ati really gaining anything from this, but maybe it's just a die shrink of the RV770 for some additional clock headroom. this would allow thier engineers to work on dx11 hardware. :shrug:

Besides, at this time, in this economy, and with AMD's piss-poor financial situation, why would they, OR the foundry company, even bother trying to develop a half-node transition to 40nm, to produce GPU's? When they have TSMC, which already needs to do this, and has quite a mature grasp on producing GPU's?

Doesn't make sense. Maybe, maybe, looking towards the future, but again, right now is not the time blowing $$$ that they don't really have on the necessary R&D, and time.
