C2D E8700 is here

Nice... Yeah lots of people like duals. I know I've been thinking of getting a Q9550 / Q9650 but might just stick it out with my E8400 since it is a great performer and should tweak it more to reach 4.3-4.5Ghz.

Duels still have a good purpose since Quads aren't fully utilized yet in majority of day to day or even gaming tasks.

I guess it will replace E8600 @ 266$
E8600 will drop to 183$, E8500 163$
E8400 finally EOL (coz next pricepoint is 133$) ;)

I wouldn't pay for the top bin Intel Dual, they are rip off prices compared to the one or two bins below.

So I only see the value in this chip of making the E8400, E8500 & E8600 cheaper.

Does this new chip[and the other E8xxx's at cheaper prices] put some pressure on the PH2?

I'll consider a quad when they actually do things in games I play, I faster dual core is always welcome.

This one will probably oc just a tad better then the 8600 model. Besides im still happy with my 8400 doing 4ghz which is more then enough for any game.

7Ghz is for people who have access to LN2 only. And 667Mhz fsb is not all mobo and ddr2 ram can achive.

667 does seem a little high but it would be nice to see that 10.5 multi....

Cuz of the higher CPU multi, new frequency records could still be achieved if you disclude any ES CPUs with unlocked multis of course. It's much more of a challenge to achieve 7GHz with a low multi like 10, need super cherry picked motherboards and not even those would allow 700 FSB usually at least at such high frequency but with 10.5x multi and LN2 on NB for 667 FSB action could possibly make it happen if we have an excellent board + CPU, wasn't 7GHz reached on an unlocked ES Wolfdale unofficially?

The google cache works!!! Really though this makes things interesting... Perhaps THIS is the chip for extreme gamers instead of the Q9550. If this runs at 4.5GHz it's worth it IMO but it needs to be below $230 to still be valuable over a quad. The DC frame rates are just outrageous for most games still.

Yes, iirc was about 7.1Ghz. I can't find the screenshots for the life of me though, the CPU-Z validation was taken down too :shakes: Not even on ripping.org :shrug:

well... price wise C2D E8000 series is above triples... so it's not a same thing, especially when you have three cores capable of reaching 4 GHz on air, and cost less than those duals E8000 ;)

lol 3 cores these two cores are faster at same speeds and can do 4.8 5 ghz on air sometimes

Someone confirm for me that there is a tri-core backer in this thread? :p

Intel has set prices for Q1 2009 last week!

Next price cut will arrive on April 20th. so don't hold your breath for cheaper 8400/8500 and 8600!

I don't expect these to be released for a while because there was no mention of it being release on the January 18 price cut chart. Or perhaps intel might cancel the launch, hence removed the link?
