I am also thinking of upgrading. I have 8800GTS 320MB.
I was looking for gtx260 216sp but not price drop can maybe get gtx280 or even gtx285? How would be info about those three cards with PPD?

If you search around a bit you'll find that the most bang for the buck from those three is the GTX260 216sp. GTX280 is just a little bump in PPD with much higher power draw, and GTX285 is only a bump from higher clocking shaders comparing to the GTX280. Question is what do you want to pay for one card and with what costs for running it will you put up?
Here's a heads up: http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...0-192-ppd.html
one guy reports struggling to get his 2 295's going at Fah forum but some initial good using one from: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...d.php?t=311924 It's in progress just now circa 14kppd no overclock
I have to say this thread makes me glad I stuck with 3 9800GX2s for the new rig. :) http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7874
i got my 295 today....
180.20 drivers...all others i tried no luck 180.87. older 17x drivers... could just be me and my crappy win xp install dont know.
i used driver sweeper and ccleaner uninstalled old drivers rebooted then dloaded 180.20 from nv.
well;
only thing ive tried so far is my beloved medieval 2. havent done fraps, but ive run 1920x1440 all maxed settings 4x AA and 2x game speed... occasional catch (@ 2x game speed mind you), but otherwise very smooth
cpu definitely not a bottleneck. e4300 @ 3.0GHz :p:
[b4 i run 16x12 with 2x AA and medium settings and ran out of vram frequently- 8800gt]
i do get a very slight noise from a component on the card (resistor or capacitor or something) when using 3d, but no noise at all with 2d desktop
mine running at stock at 70C load 50C idle.
if there is microstutter, i cant see it....
i'll try some fraps soon... needless to say huge difference from 8800gt :)
oh yeah, noise factor is no different to what i had before (ive got numerous 120mm fans) and the 620hx is handling it fine at load, i dont notice any temp difference from before, so the hx620 fan is working admirably.
i h8 to say it but this card needs more vram :D 2048 or more please.
ill run rivatuner to get an idea of the vram situation...
I've god in the past several days a retarded Idea ...
Get me a bottle of yar' booze ! Set sail ... oops ... no to grab me an I7 940 , 6 ~ 12 GB's of RAM and Two 295's
And I Heard to OC them from defalut 576/12xx to 650/14xx is like a breeze ... I'm starting to get PPD wet
actually i cant get 295 to display on reboot with XP :( drivers install i can use the card...then when i reboot the screen goes thru the inital xp screen then when going to desktop it just goes blank...but i hear the ms music....? any ideas? ive tried various drivers all the same result; i have also tried with a fresh install of XP?
i dont think it is the card as the card works before i restart.....
i'm using the 185 beta's. they work great
:/ good for you :)Quote:

Ordered a Zotac GTX295 yesterday and will report on my folding experiences on that. Hopefully my Tagan TG700-U25 PSU will not die from the amps that thing draws. :)
p2501 keep us updated on the status :)
seems like if your going to fold the 295 is a better choice than 280 as far as points per dollar.
...also points per watt it's better than two GTX260 216. I think aside from the price tag it's a win-win card. Oooh, I so hope that it's going to be here soon. :slobber:
Well see what it's going to reach on the shaders, later on it's going to be watercooled.
Update1: Okay, nVidia seems to have not checked the drivers for this thing prior to release. I installed 181.20, everything went fine. Then I went to disable internal SLI and PhysX, rebooted and BAM! Black screen. Nothing. Then reboot and safe mode. Wow. I don't know what I should think about that now. Well I'm downloading 185.20 now, we'll see how this will work out. Pictures will follow once this thing works like it should.
Update2: Got it folding, but just on one GPU (GPU0). I dunno but do I need to put a dummy on HDMI port too?
*looks at his order* 2x VGA Asus ENGTX295/2DI/1792MD3 1792 MB DDR3 (896bit), HDTV/2x *in stock*
*shivers* ooooh this will be bad ... very bad *mwahahaaha*
*whistles* Eager for the results ?
I'll go and fetch them later this afternoon when my Enermax PSU arives
*pokes everyone around* :poke:
newegg has 2 for $490 a piece...maybe I'll go straight to SLI :) imagine with a i7 build thats like 38k a day :D
Don't forget these are still having teething problems for folding just like the 4870s...

I received a reply from EVGA today regarding my issues. Here is my original question:
I purchased three EVGA GTX295 Plus cards for the purposes of gaming and running Folding@Home's GPU client. While the cards work perfectly well for gaming, I'm finding it impossible to get the F@H client to run on the second GPU of the cards despite a tremendous effort debugging the problem (found here: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7874). Others seem to be having similar difficulties with the EVGA boards, but there's at least one guy with XFX boards that is having no problems. The most noticable difference is the slight overclock of the EVGA boards and the fact that the XFX BIOS numbers end in .72 and .73 while my EVGA cards end in .90 and .92. Some detail can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7936.
I realize that this is a very esoteric issue, but is there a possibility that I can be notified somehow when EVGA updates the GTX295 Plus's BIOS? Thanks for any help you guys can offer and thanks for really great products and service.
Here is EVGA's response to me:
I’ve received an update from my PM team regarding folding at home:
- NVIDIA is aware of the issue and is working on it.
- XFX will suffer this problem as well, it is a driver bug.
Once nvidia notifies us of an update will make sure our folding team is informed immediately. Unfortunately we do not have a ETA either on such drivers.

Here you go, I'm folding with the GTX295. FahMon reports 7261 PPD.
That you're folding on it is no wonder, but are you folding on both cores of the card? That is the problem here my friend.
WFO, isn't there that guy that supposedly has both cores folding on foldingforums?
Udpate: I have a HDMI dummy plugged in, but still no luck. Both DVI ports seem to be associated with the first card/GPU, while the HDMI port is on the second board/GPU. RT shows this for GPU0 ports:
Attachment 93190
(both DVI ports show up on GPU0)
This is for GPU1:
Attachment 93191
..and it's reading nothing from there:
Attachment 93192
So what to do? Does driver sweeping and reinstalling help? I like what I'm seeing from one card, but I want both running.
Here's what RivaTuner reports. I'm using an XFX card.Quote:

Yup, it looks like both are entering performance 3D mode, but your PPD says it's just one core that folds. For getting both to run, you _need_ two GPU2 clients. There's no such thing as folding SLI one both cards with one client.
Are you xp or vista? I think I read that success was on xp (please don't ask me to find it)
well; i went to vista 32...and the card works fine; i still have no idea why i couldnt restart into xp...
only now i am bottlenecked by the cpu :p:
im going for a q9550 e0...i7 later on....but i need too save some dollars first.
riva tuner doesnt want to show me ram above 512 MB...but i'm fairly certain i am cpu bottlenecked.
i have set pre-rendered frames to 8, triple buffering on, and High Quality, and with these settings M2TW is quite smooth ;), but i need more cpu power (only running e4300@3.0GHurts right now)
