i'll suppose to receive my KV8-MAX3 later this week...now my ASUS K8V are dead(i think) he always said *system fail due to cpu overclocking*i've already clear cmos(like 30 time) and nothing :(

i hope the problem was my mobo and not my chip!!!

i want my ABIT rigth now!!!

I don't think that those K8T800 boards got anything better than 1/6 for the PCI and 1/3 for the AGP...

Hi Major,

I have to laugh because this is a really nice board and

1) I am not an extreme overclocker and have not done it justice

2) I managed to make my Antec 550w true control give 11.7v on the 12v line and will have to buy another control front panel

I tried putting it up to 300FSB in the BIOS and it went from

200/66/33

to

300 /74/37

looking good eh ?

Of course with the multiplier not working I can not try this on air.

I will now install some software and check out the ranges for the guru utility and see if it works.

OK here are BIOS options

250 => 250/70/35
255=> 255/72/36
260 => 260/74/37

it goes to the 74/37 at 259 which makes it a 7 divider.

300 is also 74/37 and so either it sticks at 7 divider or else it is buggered above 260 and should be an 8 divider and does not work on this BIOS ?

Someone with a Prommie needs to get this board I guess.

no you type FSB numbers in and then it comes in with it's own numbers.

Well that sound exactly like what the Asus K8V bios is doing too ! maybe its a chipset issue over 260mhz ? Hope not ! lol

Well, the only way to find out Major is for you to get one as there is no way I am going to hit 260FSB with an air cooler unless crystalthingy and the new clockgen work fine .. is it worth me giving it a bash or will I just lose my hard disk ( which is formatting now ? )

On a brighter note, Abit must have the brightest ever motherboard by night .. as they have put very big red LEDS in the plastic tunnel thing, see

those 4 pin connectors were also on some nforce2's.. one i can remember off the top of my head is the Epox 8RGA+ with onboard graphics...

Didn't notice that . Will have a look after it has formatted.

Unknowns up to now are this divider issue above 260, how iguru or whatever it is called performs and why the multiplier option does not work in the BIOS.

As well as why my 4 pin 12v connector :banana::banana::banana::banana:s it all up of course, but I think I might be a one off there.

You should take a deeper look into that issue. On the ABIT NF7 it is really necessary to use the 4pin plug for serious O/C.

Will do but as I screwed my psu up earlier it was registering 3.19v in the BIOS so it may be limited by that.

I may swap PSU soon to a 480w Antec out of another machine if voltages are very low.

cool, i decided i didn't care bout the £50 extra, (well i do but, my birthday(last week, didn't get anything yet, so why not ;) ) so i ordered yesterday, sent out today, will be here in teh morning.

If i wasn't sick as hell i'd have gone over to overclock, saved £8 del and got it already. The limit of this current board, seems to be 225Mhz stable, K8N Pro, the non extra 3 phase power version. Its pap, clocking badly, going down to 2.5x instead default 3x gave me a proper boot into 230Mhz, about 1/3 of the time, but wasn't stable still. Ram can deffo do more, and bios won't enforce any real mem settings, anything but spd is failing to boot.

Also got 2x512mb of hyper 3200 bh5 chips, (should be), and as5. Trying to get hold of a a64 waterblock of conversion kit. ANyone know where to get them uk or US yet. Got a swiffy block i'd like to use with conversion kit, can't find it yet, or a DD conversion kit in usa.

I don't see why 3.2v wouldn't really be available for the ram, and i don't see why we have to have the otes to get it, quite a few boards have had that before, with no problems.

Its a shame there aren't decent entuhsiast boards about, this max is overpriced, and for most of us here, otes is useless as our cpu heat won't be going into the mosfet area, so is un-needed, if you follow me, and how many peopel are gonna use this as server board, 6 way sata and 2 ide needed, not at all. Also, via's 2nd phy layer for 2 additional sata ports would be cheaper, faster and offer 4 way raid 0 for ultimate benchers(if they want it) and not excesively costing 6 way crap.

Meh, you can see i'm mad that to get the best options for clocking they screw you into buying every other feature they can fit on the mobo.

Without the 4 pin connector all the +12V current is flowing through a single pin in the 20 pin connector. Assuming the processor power is generated from the +12V, you'll have problems unless you use the 4 pin. Any chance your power supply is causing the problem?

Possibly, though it was a tight fit. I will try it with another 480w PSU tomorrow to make sure, though I am sure I tested it with a multimeter on the lead and it was OK. It seems very stable at default but I can't imagine that will be good for overclocking as you say. Will have to experiment. Anyone have a good Abit contact to ask ?

The version of uguru I had on my CD did not have the OCguru part of uguru which is the important bit , very strange, so I downloaded it from the Abit website which was dated 17th October and am playing about with it now.

Sorry TodB for the late reply, but I guess zakelwe manage to answer your question. Today will take more details pictures on the Soft Menu option on that KV8 MAX3 mobo BIOS, and show that it do support the 7/1 divider...:confused: but currently I'm not so sure yet wat seems to be the problem... Ill going to get my Antec 430watter and the 480watter at a shop today, and will show you guys more results... so sorry to kept you guys wating... *(was already asleeping after my last reply in this thread.)

It's for all Socket754 CPU's. For now that's only the A64 3200+ (but 3400+ will follow soon).
ECC is supported, but not needed (remember u don't NEED ECC on the Socket940 neither, just registered)

u can just use unbuffered DDR400 "usual" RAM. :)
