Nice thread, been wondering how to do this for quite some time now.
Very nice!
its a SATA power-cable. Comes on most modern PSUs
Not the cable ^^, the connector. I could canabilize(sp?) another cable but where would one find the connector itself? I thort it was a dumb question, sorry.
AC-Ryan has them for sure in their portfolio :)
Hey "Dangals"
When you take the SATA off, can you move the SATA up so when you plug in 2 hard drives that are right next to each other, you have no slack?
P.S. How much have you spent on ALL the sleeving/heatshrink if you don't mid me asking =)
dingdong555 you can certainly do that. I just finished that on one of my leads today.
I'm contemplating cutting off the ends to shorten the lead up, but I'm not sure yet...
Yeah, I just found a guide HERE.
Dangals I finally tried this tonight (just an experiment, but I will soon be sleeving every cable possible in my rig!)
Now I truly appreciate your guide (and my wife's hairdryer :D)
My first crack at fan cable sleeving turned out perfect, while I learned that I need 1/8" sleeving for the PCIE plugs for my GPUs
Thanks again for turning something that looked so challenging into something that is actually pretty easy to do and makes a huge difference!
or a 50cent bic lighter. just keep it moving.
well, if you use any color sleeving (ie not black) you get scorch marks using a lighter :\
the heatgun is so fast and gets you a really good tight sleeve fit. seriously its worth the money in the time you saveand the ease of use, and you can use it forever :)
I just use some tiny candles...
I got a bag of 100 or so for a few bucks at ikea a couple years back.
I killed my lighter and burned the hell out of my thumb with it, so I went candles.
I have 1/8th shrink but cant get it over the cleancut at all.... :( 1/4 shrinks down well enough though
Yeah, I'm guessing the heat gun will be better than the hair dryer :D
I'll pick one up in the next few days.
Heat gun is the way to go.
If you get lucky, you might even find one with the reflector attachment that forces the hot air to go around the wire to shrink it faster and more evenly.
Like these: http://www.steinel.net/products/heat...ccessories.cfm
See the attachments from about the third one on down? They really move things along.
wow, that looks heap easier!! Might have to look into that.
@ "Dangals" Did you sleeve the SATA cables? if so, how did you remove the connector?
I'm going to go on a sleeving binge :D
I found some stuff at a site that is very cheap and might be the same as the stuff the mdpc kits use, and in the US to boot, I'll let you guys see once I've confirmed though, until then :para: keepin it on the DL
I found half a car that is red and very cheap - might be a Ferrari - I keep you updated! ;)
How can you confirm something that you can't compare 1:1? There are so many factors in it. Just curious :)
That's why I didn't go boasting and tooting my horn, it may be similar/same, it may not. I cant tell from the web and when I get home next weekend I will be able to compare, at the least photographically ;)
I would have bought a god kit already... if only it came in white ...*cough*hint*cough*
