Yeah some people just can't learn to separate the forum chaff (the Koolance hater posts) from the facts. Oh wait, that would be you! :D

Right now I don't know of many cooling products that approach the quality of the new Koolance parts. Sometimes there are mistakes, that's why there are warranties. But you can't fault their current products (unless you mistake an OLD version for a NEW version or use water as your coolant... O.o)

As for the video card blocks, they kick ass, plain and simple. Excellent cooling, looks and all in a single slot design. They also provide replacement card slot connectors to turn the two slot card into a single slot card. That is attention to detail.

Enjoy your koolance crap..They will never make near my pc...

Ok, so buy something from a company with a pretty bad rep all things considered, wait for your plugs to arrive, hope that they didn't send you the steel ones which they don't even sell.

Check them when they arrive, if any are steel, initiate an RMA, wait for confirmation, return old plugs, wait 3 days to arrive, get new ones in another 3 days, check for any steel ones again. If found, repeat prior steps.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather just buy from a company that won't try and bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: me and be done with it, even if I might wind up paying and extra $.50...

All you Koolance fanboyz ignore every single fact we present and glorify their customer service for replacing something that WAS NOT AS ADVERTISED.

I agree the plugs should be made in brass, but when I bought the 4870 FC block it was the first to hit the market and it cost $92.00, cheaper than every other FC on the market.
So I can live with two easily replaceable bad plugs. I call them and they sent me two new ones, this time the correct brass made. If they didn't send me I would bought 2 EK plugs and that is it.
The block is top quality and very well finished with great temps. I'm a fan boy... to my hard earned money. I did the guinea pig move on the block, I knew it could have some problems and I'm satisfied with the product after I solve the steel plugs issue.
Just don't create too much expectation with Koolance and they can surprise you sometimes. Just know what you are buying, get ready to solve the issues. I like the looks of the blocks and I'll buy another one, this time I'll buy 2 plugs from Petra's in advance. The final price will still be way cheaper than other blocks.

well, the problem i would run into is not having defined channels for the FC block to lay down properly on. I dont have a EK FC 4870X2, however cross comparing to all my other FC blocks, DD was by far the easiest.

All i noticed andy was, i didnt have to fiddle with the block at all to allign up. It only slaps on 1 orientation and 1 style. And it alligns perfectly so installation was really nothing big.

It even uses the stock clamp system with DD screws to hold the block, which means less parts you lose on the original OEM sink.
Not that it matters anyways since ATI knows no such thing as life time warrenty like Nvidia. <oh and all ati cards void warrenty the moment you remove stock sink>.

But im seeing a 43C reduction from stock temps off a MCR220. So yes, you can run 2 HD4870's on 1 MCR220 and hold a differental of 2-3C on ambients. :D 2 HD4870X2 is asking for it on a single MCR220, however it would probably still yield lower temps then stock air sink. Not by much tho.

The real question is, wait for Gabe's 4870 X2 unisink, or get the DD FC block?

Is the DD a true single slot block, like the Tieton Nvidia?

For that matter, is the Koolance a single slot block ?

Koolance is and comes with the single slot bracket. Mine will be here 9/17 and will know for sure.

The DD FC block is going to perform better so it was a no brainer for me. I love my DD FC on my 4870x2.

Explain that one to me? I was under the impression that cooling just the GPUs with water and the rest passively dumped a great deal less heat into the water, because you're not cooling the vregs with water, while still giving you superb GPU temps because of the MCW-60s on the GPUs.

Just because it comes with a single slot bracket does not mean it only occupies the space of one slot. Or even if the space below it is usable.

That's just it, you want the VREG's cooled by water, this isn't a Radeon 9800 Pro we're talking about here. The new generation of video cards, like the 4800 series and the GTX 200 series draw a lot of power and place a lot of strain on the VREG's. Air cooling with wimpy heatsinks just doesn't cut it anymore.

If you manage to get your GPU temps below mine with a FC block I'll be impressed. However, I would think that 31c core temps with 38c VRM temps is about as good as you can get. You may see few degrees lower with a GPU only block but your VRM temps are going to be at least 20-30c higher than mine using air cooling and that simply isn't a good trade-off.

So, my question still stands. Are either the Koolance or Danger Den single slots designs? Can two cards be used next to each other, directly side by side, and still manage to fit in the stock back plate? This is kind of important to me, for reasons I'm not getting into.

Both are single slot, BUT the cards i/o bracket take up two slots

Hope i said that right :p:

The single slot IO brackets are either provided, or can be bought. At the worst, I'll take a saw to the brackets.

iany the pci slot is funky tho. Your gonna have a hard time finding one. Also the stock referene cooler connects to the pci slot thingy. It has 2 screws where the stock sink would fit, the waterblock removes them, but i dont recomend replacing the PCI slot. You dont have any other spare slots?

its not your typical card slot.

Theres a middle circle plug thingy in between the two dvi.

Also you really want all 2 screws in that pci cover. The card is MASSIVE. I almost fell off my chair bench lifting the thing.
