I agree it makes sense that changing the logic could have a large effect
On a 65nm process the power draw would be above what nearly every AM2+ motherboard is equipped to handle.
One thing I wonder about, doesn't deneb now support ht 3.1? So if this was real, wouldn't the ht link be at 2600mhz not 2200mhz? Or does this not matter?
They could even be squeezing russian mail brides into Deneb FX too, so I wouldn't speculate too much. :D :D
There are reasons why I would consider this more valid than Phenom 65nm rumours about performance and stuff.
1. Out of everything we have NEVER heard of high clock Phenom 65nms. Max was a paltry 3Ghz which was ES-ish. Basically everyone knew that AMD couldn't go further.
2. We know about performance per clock for an early stepping. It's not really a big boost. If that was all Deneb brought AMD wouldn't even need to bother. B4 would probably work as good.
3. K10 was extremely overengineered for 65nm, something I can say partially true (but not to that extent) for Nehalem at 45nm. Shrink both and you will be seeing impressive gains I suspect.
4. Why the severe price cuts? The 9950 is now below 200USD, which is what I never expected AMD to do for the flagship chip regardless of comparisons. This is quite indicative of the stock flush.
[Rant about cruel fate]
5. I think we all can wait. Maybe they're playing us. But it's just a rumour, no need to get riled up and insulting on a grand extent.
6. I just decided to get that Nikon DSLR. I sure as hell am not changing my decision.
I must say don't you think you are jumping the gun? It would be great if it was in the works but we shouldn't believe it until we have some more sources.
it is not true. AMD has not any CPU in high-end, and deneb will not change it.
probably not gonna happen, but the low voltage is very questionable unless if uber cherry picked deneb can hit 4ghz on stock volts in which case that is still a feat
As much as i want to beleive this, i just can't. What have we got? One suggestion from a site nobody's ever heard of, complete with a CPU-Z screenshot that could well be photochopped (unless it is validated).
Only thing to do is wait. As usual.
Whatever makes you sleep better...
The optimism in this thread is amazing....yet misplaced.
If they managed to set 45nm products at the same price range and clocks as the current E8x00s, I'll be more than happy.
There is neither the need, nor the ability of these chips to reach clocks that high on water, let alone on stock.
Perkam
I think we need to read that again, 4.4GHZ? Why not just take the AMD WR frequency? And just to be fair, do it on stock volts? And even more impressive, do it on a Quad? Do you all realise the amount of BS this is? AMD coming out with a stock chip that takes the WR frequency of any AMD chip ever made is the most laughable thing i have ever heard of, thats like Intel releasing Nehalm at 8GHZ.
LOL, yeah, it's a 1.8 GHZ jump! Seriously? No I don't think so.
Anything above 3.5 GHz stock at launch would be simply amazing.
Edit: . . .but I want to believe . . .
Yeah I didn't believe it at first but then got sucked in the fud because I wanted to believe so that amd would have a chance. Hopefully deneb can at least launch at 3.2ghz to match nehalem's launch speed, no sense of even trying to compete if nehalem's ipc is superior and launches at a much higher clockspeed
Guys, forget the voltage you see in CPU-Z, how do you know its reading the VID correctly? fact is you do not.
I agree we need more info, I have a feeling if this IS true AMD may choose to leak a little info from their friendly outlets, so look over to the north sea for some info maybe ;)
I have a feeling though an increaase of core clock speed was always on the cards with the die shrink, the price drops next week are clearing the way for a faster group of parts im sure.
so then soi+45nm=fail
Honestly, soi should have been dumped going into 65nm, it only causes a lot of leakage and power consumption will be low enough with 45nm. Only reason why I can see them doing this (other than Hector's stupidity) is that their investors are even stupider and think that soi will bring more sales and are forcing amd to do this
I'll believe it when i see it, hopefully I will and we get some more competition going for our hard earned dollars!
this it total bull, and a lame attempt by some no name site to drive traffic, which they definitetly succeeded at. this is not a new screenshot, its been going around for like a month by now, and it is supposedly an overclocked phenom, and the voltage was 1.45v.
That's what he meant, this batch of 45nm won't include them, but what's the point of having soi which causes more leakage but not hk or mg?
Amd releasing a 4,4 ghz quadcore? I'll believe it when I see it.
Will they bring back the FX name? probably.
beat a 5ghz kentsfield? sure, with a two socket system in applications that can take advantage of 8 cores (same way rv770 beats GTX280).
at this point amd should just focus on getting the "normal" 45nm quads out of the door and fast. just my 2 cents.
