OCZ Announces Core Series V2 SSDs - 170MB/sec Reads, 98MB/sec Writes

I'm upset that I just bought a Core SSD the day they became available on newegg. That was a week ago. The first one got sent back as DOA. The replacement is running fine in my system right now as I type. So I have had this drive, purchased as early as possible, for less than a week and now OCZ is telling me that they have fixed it's problems and improved it and will be selling it in a week or so. Can I trade mine in for a new one? I doubt it. This is what I get for being so anxious to get on new technology. :shakes:

is it covered under return for refund?

We have not fixed problems with a new drive, we are just bring new technology to market. No different than me buying a new 52inch LCD and 4 weeks later they update the model to have freesat integrated into it.

Wow v2 already, since I'm not in any real hurry, I'm going to cancel my order of the 'old' ones

will they offer a 256GB version as well? I'm really looking to buy one when size goes up a little so I won't have to worry about running out of space :yepp:

I read a userreview of someone who had bought the 64GB core SSD from OCZ (1st gen) and was somehow disappointed by it.

Firstly it had only 60GB (~56GiB) instead of the claimed 64GB.

Also the real life performance was sometimes better but sometimes less that just (!) a 7200rpm 320GB WD caviar sata hdd. Windows load times were higher on the ssd than on the previous hdd. Etc. Not the real BLITZ he was expecting. He did notice, though, a boost in the startup time of rather small applications, which is nice.

As for me ssd still has to prove a lot. And I'm not thinking to spend any money soon, so I have no other possibility to just wait and see. :D

would be cool if the problems are fixed and copying a folder doesn't take an obscene amount of time anymore. And to think I almost bought V1

I see OCZ guys are choosing their words carefully. I doubt there will be any mention of V1 anymore.:p:
Some got shafted some didn't, price of early adoption.

Don't sweat it guys. The SSD tech is new, and it's hard to be the first to push it.
Just be careful on your next releases, test extensively before releasing them, cause you KNOW the community will, and it will also hang your good reputation by the b***z

They said there will be a 250 GB version.
There is one major problem for consumers with SSDs right now, SSDs are evolving in such s neck breaking pace that the moment you buy one, it's "outdated". This will continue to be this way until about 1 year from now as we will be hitting the SATA 3.0 Gb/s limitation by then (probably by next christmas). That to me makes it hard to buy an SSD right now as there will be a lot better options in the not too distant future.

Sounds Great can wait untill it will hit the stores in my city

What I can conclude is that the drives works just fine for most users.

Now this is a driver that makes the OS write to the disk int he way that suits SSD and massively speeds things up,

Has any one here tested this driver? I for 1 would love to put system know to have issues thru its paces using this tech to see if it cleared things up.

Regards us not talking about rev1, sure we will, its not going away, i have 2 here which i will continue to test and offer support with.
As mentioned the technology is moving faster than most comprehend, I feel new drivers (low level) will come soon to offer better OS support and unleash the true potential of even the slower cheaper drives

To explain 64GB ending up at 56GB

64 is decimal, we all know its nearer 60 in windows
then you have 5% set aside for write leveling, bad sectors (flash) are replaced with set aside memory space out the 5%, this is the same with standard HDD also.

Will this type drive fit in a notebook computer???

Hate to buy a DELL drive and spend 10 times too much money when I love OCZ products.

sure it fits in notebooks, I use an OCZ DIY running Ubuntu 32bit with rev1 Core

i agree with the reduced useable space, my WD 5000KS is advertised as 500GB yet only 469GB is available in windows :bsod:

I have no experience with it but storagesearch editors seem to believe that it actually works.

Link us up man, if they tested this and it works it proves half the issues are the OS is responsible for a ton of the issues.
I know Vista splits large files into tiny individual files each written with a different address, it does this for security reasons, but this hammers SSD as it was never designed to run like this.

Edit: I also hear Windows 7 is actually SSD friendly, issues under vista are gone with SSD under W7.

All solid data they show comes from EasyCo, AFAIK they didn't make any review of it. What I meant is that they often mention MFT in their articles and comments as something that greatly improves performance.

Then they should not market their SSD's at 64GB but at 60GB. HDD manufacturers also don't market their preformatted capacity, but the actual usable capacity (but with the little binary versus SI trick).
