I am yanking out this max3 today and going back to my p4c800-e.
for some more testing.
I can't seem to get past 265fsb with a shread of stability but at 265 it will loop 3d mark with only 1.625 volts on this 3.2c WTF? It has to be the board thats holding me back as NO cpu voltage will make it run stable over 265.
I'll know for sure which board is better by the end of the night :)

I'd be very interested to see your results mate - I'm convinced there is something untoward going on with the Max3. It was such a bad performer that I even thought I had a dodgy board. lol.. At the end of the day I had tried two cpu's and two different lots of memory in mine, and couldn't get more than a 600mhz overclock max stable, and that was with a MachII. It's either incredibly picky with memory, or it has the worse bios on record! I'm sticking with my Asus from now on.. Tried and tested. :)

Same problem here. Can't believe they released this crap to us in this condition.
My 2.4 was maxxing at 3.3ghz (275fsb). Ill be testing a 3.2c on it this week, and if I get the same thing, then Im switching to Asus.

I am returning my max3 also. It ran 300 once now I cant get it over 260. It really sux with the 5;4 and 3:2 dividers. The board has issues.

Seems like Abit keeps releasing beta bios' to us. They need to get off their ass and give us what we paid for.

I have the p4c800-e delux and it works great for me. Getting the vdimm mod done now to get 3.2v out of it. Comes with lots off goodies and is very stable

Another happy asus owner here... :)

Thanks for all the replies!!!

Yup -- after I fried my IC7-G, I swore up and down that I'd get the Asus. But then the MAX3 came out and I thought "ABIT must have the kinks worked out by now," and I bit. BIG MISTAKE!
CPU temp on this board is always at least 7C hotter, even at idle, than on the IC7-G with the exact same rig and BIOS settings. The PWM temps are much hotter under load because of that stupid OTES plastic. Worst of all, the Vcore is all over hell and back -- ranging from 0.5v low on idle to a full volt low at load -- so I can't even worry about high OC without going over 1.7 Vcore, which I'm not comfortable doing on air. All the complaints about undervolting on the Asus helped steer me from that board, but the ABIT seems to be worse.
If I could get a full refund, and not bite the 15% restock from Newegg, I would return this thing and get the 800-E tomorrow. Since I can't, and since I have my own unhappy experience with ABIT's lousy RMA service, I'll chalk it up to my own stupidity. Next spring the MAX3 will make a good hand-me-down board to my kids, along with the Lian-Li case that suffered a slow death by Dremel. After that, no more ABIT boards unless they pay me!
:stick:

I bit it and rma back t newegg. Got an p4c800e deluxe.:D

........I think abit is going downhill fast because its just not the Intel mobos with the bios problem. Now they screwed the NF7 mobos too.........
-
...
is there a newer bios than 18 on the nf7? I got my highest oc with the 18. It was higher than 14 by about 3 mhz.
-
........no but any bios other than the d10bios most cannot use the 10/10.5 multis above 215fsb...........now the downside to the d10 bios is that ram settings are different than any other so if you can do 9.5x240 with the d18 doesn't mean your ram will do it with the d10 bios...........
-
...
i have heard everyone saying that about the 10x and 10.5x, but mine work in all bios revs. I checked 14, 16, 17, 18 and it worked in all.
I have heard that happen to the 8rda+ and other nforce2 boards, so maybe it is the chipset.
-
.......it only happens w/cpu interface=enabled. It happens to 99% of people but there is that 1% that got lucky. You might be in that 1%........

This was a good thread, I had some SERIOUS issue with my Ic7 and IC7-G and I picked up a p4c800-e. This was a good move on my part as all my issues went away. I tried every possible solution to fix my Abit connectivity issue, multiple Cable modems, Multiple Nics, Multiple Hdd's both Sata and IDe, multiple Memory sticks, Cpus, PSU's, Bios updates as well as using a new bios chip and lastly subscribing to DSLreports line monitoring to prove my IC7's had funky problems and it wasnt my ISP. I would lose connectivity EVERY 30-60 minutes and if I rebooted I had net access again, IMAGINE rebooting 20-30 times a day.....It was INSANE!!!!
The only thing I dont like about the p4c800-e is that the Northbridge should have a fan on the Northbridge as it gets a bit toasty (gonna watercool it) and the temp readings are very inaccurate (cpu shows 28c load and the mobo is 27c load)
Hey thats no biggie but this Abit guy is now a Asus guy
