Drivers are a major issue for ATI right now. SO much so that I've almost gone nV a few times now...alot of games got that damn splash-screen...but I remain faithful that somethere is capable, or they hire someone new!:rolleyes:Quote:

Pretty much all cards since x800 are this way.
i removed the shrouds from my 4850's the little plastic covers anyway, retimmed with ceramique and I setup 4 yate loons blowing over the cards, my idles dropped to mid 50's from upper 60's low 70's.
I still hit low 80's gaming though, i love the setup, sniffing 27k in 05 with stock cards and 4.1 wolfy, cod4 screams at 4axx 1680x1050 with max settings. I want better cooling though, only downfall of these cards, anyone know what coolers will work? Looks to be the same as the g92's and 3870's mountwise, was thinking some copper zalmans might do the trick.
I guess i will try this hotfix, so far I have had no issues in anything though.
HR-03 GT + A decent fan. Better than a Zalman, no exhaust path though.

Curiously though, aren't idle 2D clocks supposed to be in the neighborhood of around 300MHz. just like the 38x0 cards? Oh well, we will know for sure in about a month from now.
I have one those gonna try it, my cards go to 500mhz at idle.
Clocks don't matter so much as the voltage.
Wrong talking about RV670, frequency is almost the only thing that affects power consumption. And looking at the idle vs load voltages I'd bet RV770 is the same. I will confirm it when I get mine.Quote:

To answer someones question from above, DVi works fine, DVI to HDMI is fine. Driving a 22" @ 1680 x 1050 and a Samsung Series 3 at 1920 x 1080... (strange as its supposed to be only 1080i, but my 3870 in xfire drove it at same res)
Yeah, wish CCC had programmable fan profiles. I set mine up with riva tuner on my 3870 and it works great. Set my idle fan to 40% which is still silent, and it kicks up at preset temps to 100% at 85c.

I think that AMD needs to fix some crossfire profiles, get those latest games supported as soon as they can. Dual RV770s in Crossfire are a pretty damn attractive alternative to having a single GTX260/GTX280 considering how many people have Intel chipsets on their boards. Personally I'm awaiting to see the performance numbers on the 4870 before I jump on the RV770 bandwagon. If the DDR5 bandwidth does barely anything, I think ill jump on one or two 1GB 4850s now that I have finally retired my XBX2 rig and have something a little more up to date. We still need some more OC Tools that support the RV770 to make full use of vmods though and overcome the CCC limit. When I get one, ill be sure to jot down some kill-a-watt readings on both idle/load at varying voltages.
We need to sticky it, every X time someone cames with the same "it's impossible, voltage should have more effect" :ROTF:
I have His 4850 and it looks like the BIOS is missing 1 (maybe more) of the
"power levels" there should be one ~160mhz and the corresponding (low) voltage,however the "lowest" "power level" is set to 500 and the not so low
voltage.
There are 2 BIOS files there 1 MSI (with correct power levels) the other one
is Powercolor with "messed" up "power levels"(like my his) :eek:
