AMD Istanbul chip die picture

all i see is a title saying REAL PICTURE and then a picture posted saying NOT REAL. wth.

Seeing that you're from Netherlands I can understand that English isn't your native language, but dude, WHERE IN THE WORLD you've read in title "real picture"?!?!

AMD has a good opportunity to come back. Hopefully it will be able to compete with next Intel generation CPUs.

I was about to say that too. Both ways.

for all intel fanboys in the house, amd coming back is a GOOD THING. That means intel will continue their drive for better products, and prices will stay low, so anyone that's saying intel's already won is just ruining the thread because that means higher prices for everyone and whole lot less innovation

It seems like the thread is missing the point of this artistic rendition... this is the key point here, in terms of competitive performance. And why he created the artistic rendition... because of this very fact. Core vs Core, amd's current architecture looks to be outmatched by nehalem, in terms of raw power, ipc etc... but it has an advantage of size, and if amd exploit it, it could even the playing field.:up:

makes you wonder about the potential price difference between amd's and intel's future cpus :X.

Hope both companies manage to bring out competitive products :) Would be happy to buy my first AMD rig sometime next year :)

I don't think you read what i had said very carefully, you seem to have taken things that were not there.

I was pointing out, that people are missing the point of what hans is trying to show. That 2 amd cores can fit in the same space as a single nehalem core.... thus possibly giving amd a chance to create a chip that could match performance. I m not sure where you got 7 points from what i was saying.. especially the fanboyism part, did you just look at my sig, and read the word nehalem and make a judgement because what i was saying. If anything out side of neutral obvious could be taken as pro amd... :shrug:
And this thread has implicit statements made by hans regarding performance. Not numbers per se, but the fact 2 cores 2 threads, vs 1 core 2 threads. Implicit. not blatant.

that's a pretty ugly 'artist impression' due to the layout... amd will probably starve using that layout.

Whether or not AMD will die will be decided in the stock market, not in in the overclocking market.

Not to mention, even in our domain, AMD wont be officially dead until Nehalem comes out, so save your eulogies for another time.
