If the D9 chips have no problem clocking that high how come my D9's are walling?
are you using a native rampage or a flashed maximus?
and what other kits have you tried (9600)?

how are rampage boards designed for ddr3 yet only support ddr2? its not backwards compatibility, its that the x38/x48 support both ddr2 and ddr3 because they are the same chip. the rampage does not have more quad tweaking vs maximus. where do you see these "extra options" the cpu gtl of 67? gtl on both boards are not only exactly the same but a joke. people with "native" rampage motherboards will vary with different settings to achieve different clocks because they all use different hardware. cpu's dont all clock the same and neither does memory. in fact, it would be exceptionally rare to see 2 of the exact same configurations take the exact same settings. i dont know where you get your info....
sorry dont mean to flame, but what you just said is silly.
The native rampage's northbridge is 65nm die, the maximus is 90mm.
that's one difference.
The "Row Refresh Cycle Time" on maximus has options in incriments of 1 "41, 42 43 etc). The rampage has incriments of 5 (40, 45, 50).
That's another difference :)
The rampage bios has "3rd information" timings not sure for what, i was told by a friend it's for quad core.
The maximus's bios's do NOT have 3rd information timings.
There's another difference.
The rampage extreme is DDR3, thus rampage series is NOT just DDR2.
I don't want this to go off topic here. I see members of XS are very good at that. If you go to tech powerup forums and check out maximus/rampage bios threads you'll see that a flashed maximus's settings don't work well with a native rampage's bios.
That's from my experience anyways, and anyone else i've read that has a native rampage that tried a flashed maximus's settings with the SAME cpu aiming for the SAME frequency, it should work. Maybe not 100% stable, but close anyways.
I am very aware that all cpu's clock differently and yadeya ya ya bla bla but the fact that the northbridge on the native rampage boards is a smaller die (for many reasons) PROOVES that the boards are NOT the same.
Now, back to the topic.
can we PLEASE, for the love of floating jesus, stick to the damn topic! MEMORY PEOPLE. memory, and NATIVE rampage. if you have a flashed maximus and it's not noted in your sig, plz state so.
THANK YOU.
x38 and x48 are both 90nm fab. whoever told you otherwise has lied to you or doesnt know what they are talking about. 3rd timing information is for memory, thus why it is grouped with the memory section of the bios. if you say the rampage extreme is ddr3 and rampage series is not only ddr2 then the same could be said with the maximus. the xtreme is ddr3 while formula is ddr2. once again, there are NO differences hardware wise other than a re-labeled x38 to x48. the only differences are in bios.
ive read through the tpu forums... you guys have trouble clocking to 3.4 on quads
and where is the rampage extreme? try pinot noir.
memory compatibility will not differ between x38 maximus converted to rampage and x48 rampage.
p45 will be the first mch on 65nm fab
I'm sorry to disappoint you but a maximus formula with rampage bios works just perfect and there are no bios issues. The overclocking capibilitys after flashing to rampage are even better as there's a few more options to play with.

Okay I'll admit I was wrong about a few things (like the die) it is 90mm but just because the boards look identacal doesn't mean they are the same.
the asrock 775dual-vsta and the 4coredual-sata/sata2 looked identical and they had their differences.
Now back to the memory and the board:
I do believe it is the board with memory problems. With bios 0217 i wasn't able to hit anywhere close to 1150mhz. Then when I updated to bios 308, I was able to hit 1164mhz.
Now that I'm on bios 401, I can hit 1181mhz so it is getting closer.
Since the updated bios releases are achieving higher memory clocks for my memory, that prooves that this board does have memory issues with certain kits.
in further bios releases, they seem to be relaxing timings you cant change in bios. what row refresh are you using?
and trust me. the boards are the same. even the box that it came in, all they did was re-silk screen the motherboard and re-did the front of the box... they were even so lazy they didnt change the back and it reads x38.
i'm using 45, the ram's rated is 42.
Like i mentioned before, the rampage bios does not allow incriments of 1 in row refresh, where the maximus does.
Interesting. I set mine to 100 on both channels and now I'm at 1200mhz.
Thank you!
mm good topic. First sorry for my english , but i've a big issue with my rampage and my (single sided :'( ballistix pc8500).
I've test alls bios and always the same problem.
Xeon X3360@3.81 mhz 1.34V FSB 450
NB 1.41V
RAM @ 1080mhz 2.20V 5-5-5-15 (tested with 1:1 ratio 900mhz)
Stable on memtest with a boot CD
Stable on memtest XP
Unstable on vista memtest + OCCT and games... Every hours got a BSOD : Memory management
Single sided ballistix pc8500 do not work very good with this board from what I've read. You might need to rma for different ram.
Team Xtreme 1300 and GSkill 800 HZ working like a charm here....
I can't even run my RAM on SPD which is: 533Mhz 5-5-5-15 2.1v. :/
This is my system
E6400
Rampage Forumla
3870 CF
Corsair Dominator TWIN2X8500C5DF 4096MB
Tagan 550W
I'm running 400fsb and when I try to set my rams @ 533Mhz I can't even get into BIOS without a reset.
Do you think it's my CPU that causes these problems?
I have not flashed my BIOS, yet and I'm using the blue slots for my memory.
Help/Tips is appreciated.
I hope you don't mind me posting in this thread? I'm looking at getting one of these boards and was wondering if anyone has used this kit of OCZ RAM with it http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...pc_4gb_edition
Is there any compatibility problems with this RAM?
Using a mix of Ballistix 8500 and Cellshock PC8000 C4 for 4GB on flashed Maximus, no probs here.
I am finding this board really picky on 800mhz+ memory. I can't find the QVL for this board for 1066Mhz ram. Can someone point me to the link? I have tried some patriot and some corsair memory and haven't been able to get the board stable at either 800 or 1066 (and this was with 1066 ram). I am now using two 1GB sticks of 667mhz kingston and the board is rock solid.
8GB of G.Skill DDR2 1066 RAM here on a native Rampage, running at DDR2 1083 fully stable. Most RAM settings stock except for voltage. I was almost able to get DDR2 1141 stable (8 min of stress testing was the best I got), but in the end it wouldn't cooperate.

hi! i'm from italy and i've the rampage formula motherboard.
i have also the crucial ballistix tracer 1066 single sided and they are not working at 800mhz:(
the G.Skill DDR2-1066 PK Series Dual Channel Kit (2x2048) or the Team Group DDR2-1066 Xtreem Dark Kit (2x2048) are rock solid on this board??
Hi,
I've got 4 x 2 GB Gskill 4GBPK installed on my Rampage Formula (MCH@only 1.32V).
Runs like a charm :).
I had a simple 800 CL5 Transcend-kit in there before, had nothing but trouble.... And as soon as I went above 3600 Mhz with the QX9650, I didn't get it stable at all, no matter what voltage.... Completely gone now....Running 12 hour prime95 stable at 4000@1.32V@1066 RAM stock settings....
Will try to oc the Gskills in the near future, but I don't really see the point....
Is fast as hell the way it is...
Greetz,
Remorfer
Is there a possibility to find a QVL list for the rampage online as mine refuses to boot with a different fsb than 266. Which means when I set the fsb to 300 e.g. the board still boots with 266, and for the moment I´m blaming my rams which are SuperTalent 2x 1Gig DDr-2-800 4-4-3-8. Ive had them running fine on my old p5b even with 4 of them fitted.
