Im just a honest young overclocker looking for sponsors! :D

hmm, this doesn't look so good for the S2E, hopefully the issues will be ironed out.
Damm I thought it was just me, windows vista 64 got nailed yesterday.
First started with scan disk for errors & after it found errors it tried to fix & failed, after it froze vista would nolonger start at all not even in safe mode.
So I got pissed & installed win xp pro Sp2, i noticed everytime I re-booted hard drives would turn off !!!!
Something also happend to memory, 4 x 1 GB it will no longer run at stock timmings 7-7-7-18 @ 2T 1.8 VDimm is stock, no matter if I use 1.9 or 2.0 VDimm no go at 1600MHz, but if i pump 2.06 @ 1800MHz boots noproblem WTF
I can't install windows xp pro sp2 on this computer at all.
Lastnight I sent out a few messages about some sort of lag that makes you feel sick (dizziness) playing games, I did find the problem NB at 1.4 volts,, made this go away setting NB to 1.52 volts:shrug: . This was no joke & I never had a problem like this before.
All above on Striker II Extreme 790i.
E8400 1.39Vcore 450FSB 4.05GHz
Bios 507
Memory 1:2 1800MHz 7-6-5-18 @ 1T 2.06 Real VDimm
Now using Vista 32Bit Ultimate...
how do you do a system integrity check in vista?
It was in my post last page...
but here it is again;
To check if your system contains corrupted data:
System file integrity scan:
- search for "cmd"
- right click-run as administrator
- type in "sfc /scannow"
after scanning it will tell you if your windows is corrupted and weather it was able to fix the corrupted data(most probably not).
thanks.. i skimmed through the first page and missed it
Any motherboard.
I always thought you get corruption every time you get bsod and even more so when it does not finish its memory dump.
Also when windows will not boot from an overclock or a random shutdown.
Does ECC memory help fight this?
Not necessarily, and most of the times not.
[quote=fordf250]even more so when it does not finish its memory dump.
Nope. If you break the memory dumping process you just lose the data contents of the memory when the PC crashed ( it's saving it into a file for further troubleshooting ).
Hey eternal
Did you try BIOS 0508? What about the just released 0511?
To be honest I'm not gonna try out new S2E BIOS until at least a 06XX version... fed up with installing Vista
Dont forget every this 05XX bioses ARE Beta releases (maybe Alpha) ... no official release yet! But i am testing 0511 now without problem, but testing not yet done ...
If this are beta and maybe alpha releases, why is ASUS giving them out to random people? thats what I dont understand.
So eternal, what BIOS are you (or were you) using with your striker II?
Just a comment guys... have you noticed that someone voted for all the four options of the poll? What's he trying to achieve? Confuse the others?
Lol yeah I noticed that also maybe at first no corruption first time doing the poll then like 2 mins later all 3 of his boards corrupt at the same time. j/k
hummm thats odd?
this does sound like a sata issue?
mmmhhh i dont like this at all... do you happen to have another board to check if your mem degraded or if its the board that is freaking out? :S
what, even on stock? with underclocked mem maybe? try 2x1gb stock speed... maybe 4gb needs some tweaking to be stable even at stock?
yeah i know this from p35 and x38, when your semi stable you can sometimes play games and benchmark, but perf is terrible... if you increase chipset voltage the performance is back to where it should be... weird eh?
why 32bit? i know your prolly fed up, but could you try 2x1gb at low 1000% stable mem speeds and check if the board works alright and then check if bumping up the fsb triggers corruption even if the mem is way in the safe zone?
no, not that i know of... corruption usually only happens when an important system file is beeing written to. if the system crashes while its beeing read, which is what happens most of the time, then theres no prob whatsoever. and windows is quite good at repairing itself, it has duplicates of almost all important files, and if one is missing or corrupt it gets replaced with the backup.
i dont think so... first of all ecc would let you oc way worse, would decrease your mem performance at the same speed.
i think it wouldnt really be able to fix massive corruption issues which is what usually happens when windows is blown away.
well you never had any problems to begin with :D why are you even trying all those bios files?
wow...
you tried to flash the reference nvidia bios to the evga board right?
the flash was successfull but the board is dead now? :S
hmmmm you could try to hotflash the chip in another board to at least get the board working again with the evga bios i guess...
geez, so you spend an entire day testing stability like that? are you an unofficial beta bios tester or something? :D
why 32bit? i know your prolly fed up, but could you try 2x1gb at low 1000% stable mem speeds and check if the board works alright and then check if bumping up the fsb triggers corruption even if the mem is way in the safe zone?
I removed 2gb just to see what the performance is like & just running with 1gb x 2 in vista 32bit.
Testing...
This might be interesting for ALL of US
Sata Bricks
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquir...-driver-bricks
thats interesting. ive had no problems with a samsung SATA dvd burner in vista x64 with my previous 780i and my current 790i. xp is a different story though, i did get nvgts.sys errors in XP 32 bit so i ditched it. i also have a raid 0 setup with 2 hd's and have never had issues with that either in vista.
So I guess is better not to install the SATA drivers... but I believe there is a perfomance loss? :(
Guys, I am posting this here as saaya requested it to be posted here from the 790i review thread.

This is what I did
First up QX9650 with OCZ16002GK, everything @ default -> Memtest good for 3 passes, SPI 1M,32M stable and 12 hours+ prime stable.
QX9650 with OCZ16002GK, everything @ default except for vcore @ 1.15V, SPI 1M,32M stable and 12 hours+ prime stable.
QX9650 @ 1333 QDR(333 FSB) and RAM unlinked @ 1600 7-7-7-20 1T, 1.9V, 3 passes of memtest good,SPI 1M,32M stable and 12 hours+ prime stable.I had to manually enter the timinigs as the default timings were way too loose. I think it was like 9-8-8-24 or something like that. This is when I found out the RAM is being overvolted a bit.(~1.93 with 1.9 set in BIOS). Everything else @ auto
Qx9650 @ 1600 linked and synced 7-7-7-20 1T 1.9, all on auto except memory. didn't bother to memtest, SPI 1M no go. Tried upping the vcore only to find out the vcore is also being overvolted, went all the way upto 1.35vcore with loadline calibration. Nope, still no go. Sometimes even BSODed.
Brought the FSB down to 350(1500 QDR) with all on auto. 6+ hours prime stable. Tried 375 FSB from there. No go. This where all the trouble began.
The board sometimes got stuck on "Code Init" and refused to post, had to pull the power cord off the PSU to get it to post.
Swapped my QX9650 with my E3110, went straight to 375 FSB, windows hung on me while running 32M SPI(all @ auto).
Did a memtest @ 1333 FSB with RAM @ 1600 and the rated timings @ volts and let it run overnight. A lot of errors came up then.I had ordered the 4GB OCZ EB 1600 (2x2) from mwave and thought I would return the old RAM. It came in yesterday, popped it in and ran memtest @ 400 FSB linked and synced with my E3110, memtest hung on me.Tried the white slots instead if the blue ones. Still memtest was hanging and the board sometimes would hang on Memory init. on This where it even got worse.I kept trying different things like manually setting tRFC and stuff like that and also did a clear RTC. the board refused to even start up when I pushed the power button. The stupid LCD poster thingy kept flashing "CPU INIT", got it to POST and everything was on default coz of the CMOS reset. Booted into XP, it hung on me. Rebooted, that when I got the message about the NB, CPU and SB error message. It gets better, I kept trying different things, lol @ one time all the lights on the board came on(the LCD for the high, low , crazy on the board itself). I panicked and switched off the PSU and when I rebooted, none of the lights came up and I kept getiing the error message.
Sorry about the long post, but I thought I would share my experience. I think the BIOS got corrupted or the CMOS itself chip is F***ed up someway. The reason am thinking that is when I tried to flash it to 0508, it said the ID does not match and I downloaded the BIOS file from ASUS's FTP site.
I guess it's a good thing that I paid for the Advanced RMA from NCIX when i bought the board. Also, it's quite possible I got a dud since I was one of the early people who got the board probably from a very early batch(They had just 2 of 'em when I ordered).
