New evaporator Maze GT1 by tiborrr

After months of no spare time to spend on the Mach restoration, the unit is now finally done:

Sloppy me - burned through copper pipe due to thermal load of acetlyene/O2 torch flame:

System running while charging. The manifold is a bit f$$ked up, so the low side port is attached to high side manifold's port:

-62°C but unstable, -72°C was achieved for a second or two before the compressor shut down :)

The unit is faily overcharged, but the pull down is mega fast - about 20-25 seconds from +20°C to -40°C, perhaps due to evaporators really low mass. The report on the temperatures will probably be tommorrow because i still have to find the optimal charge for it.

You really should purge the low side- did you purge the evap?

also- do you make the evaps yourself? do you have any pics of the milling machine its on?

The low side and the evap weren't purged since i did not have any nitrogen, next time i will certainly purge. The evap was made on the CNC machine, i just made the MasterCAM program with some help of the CNC operator out of my 3D CAD model i drawn in OneSpace Designer.

No, it's the 400.000€ CNC machine owned by a local company that produces parts for automotive industry and i happen to know the owner :) It's not for free, but it's not that expensive too. Thanks for the compliments, it was so easy on the oxy/acetylene and i haven't had much practice with brazing before (that's why you can see some excess braze on the discharge line).

Thumbs up to LittleDevil who assisted me with the wiring of the NL11F (it turned out the starting device - the winding was faulty) over the telephone :up:

Looks like this type of foam insulation is good enough for ~ -50°C operation, no humidity on the outer shell spotted. It's thermal conductivity is - as specifications state - 0.039W/mK (armaflex 0.036W/mK).

Power rating: cca. 231W calculated theoretically -> let's take that with the grain of salt, ergo * 0.9 = ~ 210W thermal load

I hope you don't mind mate, but I like the metal mounts, might have to work with that. The muff I've always wanted though the other way, consistent quality pour foam is rather hard to do, thus a snap ring and foam donuts works for me.

what gauge is that?!? as long as those don't flex those should sell in a heartbeat!!!!

it's impossible to flex them, 3mm steel and galvanized. Version for all sockets has inside Fi63 and LGA775 has Fi66. In next order i'll keep just one Fi (i need to decide which one is more practical for enclosures -soon some Fi50 evaps on cnc).

I see some thread hijacking going on. Anyway, here's a model of a 9800GX2 evaporator made out of two Maze GT1 evaporators (one is normal, the other one is mirrored version so the channels line up), lowered by few milimetres.

No retention clip need, only a plastic tube filled with pour foam will complete the insulation as well as two backplates.

This was the main reason why i ordered retail series of evaporators in both form, mirrored and normal :up:

Hey that looks pretty tedious! I mean if you got that mounted you would still need to insulate, not to mention somehow cool the memry. What I was thinking of looking into is buying an all-copper GX2 waterbloack, and brazing a suction and liquid line to it. Its probobly not going to be the best, as it was designed for water, but it should be pretty easy to install and mount.

But please keep me updeted! I want to know how this goes!
