Ive already sent a ticket to ati most be a bug since it only happens using the DX10 path if I use the DX9 path in vista 64 set everything to high frames are perfect and crossfire is working if I use the DX10 path in vista 64 and set everything to high one card goes into 2 mode once I get to the part where the sunrises and fps goes haywire.

Has anyone tried the 8.1 in vista to see if it fixed it? They also released 8.1 hotfix i think this fixes our problem

I'm testing the new Catalyst right now.....I think my Crysis performance is the same....never had the 2d/3d switching issue you guys have though...

Im still having the second card go into 2dmode in crysis with the 8.1 could somebody create a bios that sets 3d clocks permantley like described in this thread would very appreciated.

this game just has ridiculous system requirements. i think it's a terrible benchmark to use for today's video cards. i ran through the demo level again with the Ultra DX9 config, modified a bit by myself. the Crysis monitor showed that i was using over 1000 MB of memory (i assume this is referring to VRAM?) and my task manager showed that i was using 98% of my system's 2 GB of RAM. i averaged about 22 fps with no AA @ 1680x1050 using that config. 1 GB of VRAM is silly though. and the game looks like crap on Medium when compared to Very High settings.
its not vram, thats still system ram, its just the system ram crysis is using.
oh, good. on another note, i saw PowerPlay rear its ugly head in the single player campaign of CoD4. my framerate suddently dropped to ~30 fps for no apparent reason, so i turned the Riva monitor on and played a few minutes longer. sure enough, within five minutes my framerate dropped again. i exited the game and took this screenshot:

we all need to send e-mails to the Catalyst Feedback team and let them know they need to fix PP or ditch it altogether. i don't ever want my cards running at 297 MHz while i'm in a fullscreen game.

just link this thread in your complaints... i'm so fed up with this power play bollox tho. sometimes vista detacts the pp change to 2d and crashes(driver fails)... it does it in every game if you play long enough... its sooooo annoying...
i wont want a X2 if its going to be jumping into 2d all the time like this is...

The problem hasnt really been solved for those with stock coolers. By forcing 3d clocks, these cards sound like vaccum cleaners. Its cool that someone figured out how to mod the bios but honestly, it would be nice for ATI/AMD to have fixed this one so that the cards would clock up and down as they should.
The problem is that there are 3 settings. 2d, 3d power save and 3d full power. The cards are kicking into 3d power save.Quote:

unfortunately, it's one of those things we have to live with. ATI doesn't communicate with us very well imo. there was never any mention of the Call of Duty 4 CrossFire flicker at all from ATI - then it was quietly fixed in the 8.1 driver. they never even acknowledged a problem. they fixed it, but i'd still like more transparency on their end. i'd also like an official list of games supported by CrossFire, but i know that will never happen.Quote:

This one is based on the 73 with stock 2d clocks and 3d slightly overclocked in both powersave and full power setting. This one doesn't have as extreme fan control so it runs a little warmer.

Both work well in crysis.
I have bee toying with the idea of getting two HD3870s and running them in Crossfire to replace my 8800GTX, but after looking through this thread, I see that Crossfire still has many problems. It's really too bad that ATi can't release new drivers with much needed fixes in a timely fashion :(.
