If it was me i would not take that chip over 1.6v, even this is a tad high for just a water cooled system, i think you should be safe around the 1.55 mark though with this chip but at the end of the day it is upto you how far you want to push it and if you have the cash to replace it when things go bad.
1.6vcore on 45nm with water is too high for 24/7. Get phase and yeah that would be a good upper 24/7 limit, but not on water.Quote:

However, as with what others have said... no way in hell would you get me to push much in the way of voltage through these new chips, at .45nm there's just WAY too much to risk, remember, you can fry a CPU even when the temps are perfectly within limits.
I would NEVER exceed 1.5v 24/7 on .45nm even with water.

I think many others here will back me up on that.
From my experience voltage will not kill your cpu. I ran my Q6600 1.65v on air for many hours. Either your cpu will be unstable because of the temp. or it will have to much volts and refuse to boot, prime etc.

I recall a survey thread from a while back, titled smth like "Sudden Conroe Death Syndrome" where the poster was interested on finding out voltages ppl were running 24/7, and whether electromigration was having any effect on the chips running on crazy OC's. That thread must've never gone past the first page. I'd say that tells alot :up:
Had an E6600 at 1.85v on water for days and nothing happened.. Don't worry about 1.5 or even 1.7 for 24/7
Yes, but this isnt Conroe guys. This is Yorkfield, a 45nm shrink process that can run at lower vcore, and please correct me if I am mistaken. Intel is no longer using silicon but rather high-K dielectric halfnium with these Yorkfields meaning this is a new technology and we do not have any failure from voltage data.
PS- Also, at 1.65vcore and 4.68 GHz, my temps were 54*C idle in the bios.. This is just getting too dangerous now..
The stock voltage is rather high for 45nm; maybe try some extreme-undervolting if your motherboard supports it?

4ghz stock is simply amazing.
running on water 4.5ghz seems also like a nice deal.
and even with that volt up to 4.7ghz are again amazing.
The old conroe deals have not a chance to get sold after these chips gets out for overclockers.
Waiting for the locked ones sadly tho.

I have found the same thing about the fsb with mine. My QX6850 could handle significantly higher FSB than the Yorkie can, even when using phase cooling. It must be the extra cache. I am still trying to figure out how much voltage is relatively safe for the 9650 if it's cooled well, and where the diminishing returns of higher voltage start.Quote:

Dissapointingly the highest FSB I attained on this processor under high cpu clocking was 445, anything higher will FREEZE at post. So, I kept on upping the multi. Please note also: My X38-DQ6T was good to 535 FSB on my old E6850 cpu. So, this FSB wall is definitely CPU limited.Quote:

Also I want to see where the whitepaper is (anyone has a link). I just went to the intel processor finder, and it tells me that the voltages on this chip range between 0.85V-1.365V.
