maybe microcode update to unlock upper multi??
Still it is weird why one black box is unlocked(5000+) and the other isn't(6400+)
Also ,now it is clear that 5000+ is "revised" G1.Latest OC reports back that up(kyosen).
What is MAX multi?
x16?
read kyosen's post on the 1st page...

but I confirmed that 5000+B.E. is unlocked upto x25 at least within DFI's NF590-SLI BIOS.

Why would anyone use higther multi then 16 anyway?
Don't you want to overclock the memory?
Im on a 165 Opty and I got it running 9x322 for 2.9ghz and 241mhz on ram.
It would help for achieving ultimate frequency due to the HTT limiting effects of cold bug. That is all.
What a waste of packaging for a tiny processor, especially when said packing doesn't contain a hsf. Come on AMD, nix the fancy packaging and give it to us OEM and cut some $$$ from the price.
I have NOT read any review indicating unlocked-6400+...
Anyway, as I mentioned at first page of this thread,
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...19&postcount=9
My 6400+BlackEdition is upward locked.
My 5000+BlackEdition is upward unlocked...upto x25.
16x is the highest on my 6400+ on biostar 560 am2+
Oh well, not that I would need that high anyway, gotta overclock my mems:D
Ah, I understand...yes, downward multiplier changing are available
for both 6400+B.E. & 5000+B.E., as usual, of course:)
I had thought that locked/unlocked argument is directed only upward, here XS:D
why would the bios make a difference as the 5000 is the newer of the two? Therefore it would seem to me if there was a problem the 5000 would have it too.
So it seems the final verdict is
6400+ BE: Downward unlocked ONLY, like any X2
5000+ BE: Downward AND upward unlocked like an FX
Thanks for all the responses :yepp:
so 5000+ BE for the win?!!!! i'm thinking about trashing my 5200+ and getting the 5000+ BE... as I'm stuck with my current setup..it won't go anymore
