Is there proof that AMD is actually starting to solder chips? I have only seen the one case where the guy ruined his fx-60 or something... I'm taking the IHS off this 3600+ of mine so i shall see what happens.

Not soldered. Made in Malaysia, 2005 on the spreader, 0706 stepping date.
Quick pic. Camera batteries are always dead and I'm no photographer.

C2005 AMD
do it mad man :D
well, i cut it all the way with razor blade and tried to pop it off. it was hard stuck there so i thought "what the..." and applied a little bit more force...
It came off with cracking sound and i was scared to hell
lucky me, it was not soldered, just that dried stock thermal goop caused that sound.
She's well and a few degrees colder :D :D
i hope my user name wont be changed lol :ROTF:
no pics?

temps went from max 49C to 39C load at 286*10.5@1.44V
any updates...what did you gained???? temps, ocing? :d
well my 7600GT died, it was oced and i think that the Aero forced it to run oced 24/7, not only while gaming, so yesterday it locks in vista and then crashed.
And then artif*ckts appeared during boot... its dead, RIP
so now i have to find a temporary replacement and then ill post some results.
so i have an old 6200LE for now :( at least it drives Vista w/o problems.
anyway by removing the IHS i gained at least 10C on both cores, maybe more. Its real shame to see how bad contact the IHS had with core. Lapping did nothing to temps, but removing ihs >10C
before, she was stable at 2.9Ghz 1.36V and loads at 41C max.
Dont really remember idle temps coz she spent almost all time under 100% orthos load lol, but after boot it was around 30C
3.0stable wasnt possible. Temps shoot past 50C at 1.49Vcore and then Win gave bsod
now im at 3.05Ghz, 1.44Vcore and temps are under 42C load, idle is under 30C
im amazed to see how it helped. I didnt test what vcore it needs now at 2.9Ghz, but to be honest i dont care about 2.9Ghz lol.
Ram is now at 509Mhz, 5-4-5-9 timing, btw, this ram is 333 at 4-4-4-9 default lol.... nicely overclockable...
so i should give it a try ? ;)
i have infinity...
Wow, great results on the IHS removal, it is quite tempting, but I guess its not worth the extra 30 bucks or so to buy a new hs to get an extra 100mhz or so.
sometimes 150mhz more IS worth it ;)
and in my case, i already had bolt-thru hs, so only cost was 10minutes of fear while removing and hoping she's not soldered
it would be interesting to compare temps of your infinity and my noctua when you remove the IHS...
i was thinking abut doing this, but would my utra 120 extreme crush the core?
if you are carefull it shouldnt
very nice results you have here guys
Now I'm thinking about beheading my 65nm 3500+....
Maybe it will let me reach 100% stable 3GHz out from it... (so far 2.88GHz rock solid)

it worked
That IHS looks convex to hell O_O.
Getting a Brisbane 5000+ Black Edition. Tempted to do it. Not sure if it is soldored. Any ideas?
my standard G1 Brisbane 5000+ isn't so i don't think so..
