Man, i just *love* your in depth reviews Zroc! I don't even bother to read 865/875 reviews any more, you can alway sum up the facts professionaly. ;)
One question: are the current IC7's capable of running +300FSB? The one's i've seen all craped out at ~275-285fsb, making the asus a better buy.
I'm not into extreme overclocking anymore. i've broken too much fine hardware, which contradicts the reason why i overclock: to save money... would the IC7 + 2.4C be a good buy for me? I intend to run it 24/7 at 275fsb with h²o cooling.
I have mine at 300, i can get it to 302, but its not stable. This is on air too.

I put a Zalman passive heat sink in place of the original, and then stuck the fan of the normal hs on it, with as3 of course. Havnt had any problems with it, i think its the memory holding me back, but i shoudnt complain.
that is a nice cheap cooling solution, $5 at svc.com. I plan to get some ocz 3700 gold. that should do the trick :)

Truth be told, I don't know. This is the same 2.4 I used in the roundup in the overclocking section...it's limit is still 271, with hyperthreading on, passing Prime95 for 24 hours, and passing 20 loops of 3DMark.
This is really all I personally care about. I'm NOT that guy that wants to mod the shinznat out of everything to try to top the ORB. I'm that guy that overclocks to get the most for his money, wants it 100% stable...and then go play games ;)
I LOVE the new P4 chipsets...both of them. And I love that Hyperthreading is now for the masses (more important to me than the overclocking).
However, I don't think people have quite adjusted to the over-200 FSB phenomenon. 25 FSB used to be a REALLY big deal. With a 533 part, going from 150 FSB to 175 FSB was a pretty large 16% FSB boost.
Well, that 25 FSB isn't what it used to be. Going from 275 FSB to 300 FSB is only a 9% boost.
As I pointed out in the roundup, P4's gain roughly 18.4% from FSB alone, where clockspeed alone returns 70%. Clockspeed is more important than FSB, by a longshot.
Then there's the other things...the dividers and timings. Say you have to drop timings to hit 300 over 275...well, there's that performance drop. What about dropping from 5:4 to 3:2? That's an instant 2.85% performance drop...if you have to drop to 3:2 to get past 280, you'll have to hit 291 just to get back where you were.
Heh, I'm getting off topic. Maybe I'll do an opinion piece on modern overclocking ;)
Im at 3:2 right now, i tried 5:4 and the highest fbs I could get was 272, when i dropped it to 3:2 I could then crack up the FBS. There really wasn't a drop in preformance for me with the Ratio. When i dropped it (I still have my timings at 2.5/3/3/7) i noticed a big difference in my 3dmark score. Im getting 23k, but when i was at 5:4 i was getting around 21. It was worth it IMHO.

To overcome a 2.85% drop in 3DMark that 5:4 to 3:2 gives, you'd need to go from 270 to roughly 278.
300 would be much better (as you already know).

Here's my angle...I'll be using 3.0C or 3.2C (next week)
I'm trying to look into the crystal ball and see what the 16 multi brings to the table. Like 250fsb = 4gHz good. Now if it clocks with subzero cooling to like 270-ish, that's 4300+...first page ORB potential with 540/410. So 270fsb is ddr540 at 1:1...probably only do-able with ocz gold at lousy timings...or ddr432 at cas2, 5,2,2 with some good ram. What's your opinion bringing the 3.2 into the picture? I just sold my IC7 to get a P4C800Dlx...right move??

Tech: it depends. You can probably actually overclock a bit more with the P4P, but you HAVE to to catch the IC7 anyway (clock-to-clock, IC7 wins).
charlie: I know that's what OPP's waiting on...the 3.2.
Raw clockspeed and a severely overclocked vid card gets you to the top of the orb. FSB without the clockspeed to back it up won't get you there.
I don't think 270 FSB 1:1 is doable...you'd be the first I've seen.
Is trading in an IC7 for a P4C a good move?
I don't know. The last BIOS for the IC7 pretty much brought it on par, clock-to-clock. Some people have better luck overclocking with IC7, some with P4C.
A lot of it boils down to sheer luck...you may get a good P4C, or you may get a bad one. All boards (even the same model) are not created equal.
I wish I had the definitive answer for you, but overclocking always has been a crapshoot. Hell, if there WAS a definitive board/chip/memory/cooling solution...EVERYONE would have it ;)

1:1 at 270 would be the first i have seen aswell. Sandra would need a second line to fit the score. I think have finally decided to go with the ic7. I will start messing with a p4p800 today, but from what i have seen the bios is pretty annoying.

oh, that is right i did see someone with 540 with vdim, but the voltage was so high it would have killed rame quik. I am not sure what you saw, but if you want to do it the ocz gold is the mem to buy.
