I will be getting a EVGA 680i A1 in 2 days and we will see if I change my mind about my prior statement but I still would not give up my current sytem for a Conroe build!

Back on topic with AMD though I am really looking forward to their new offerings this year and very excited about what they will bring, My next Personal system will be a Super Micro H8DAi-2 Dual Socket F and will get a couple of 2216 or 2218 chips from Ebay for cheap until Barcelona comes out and drops a little then I will get 2 Barcelona Quad chips and 8Gb DDR2667 ECC Registered who needs to O.C that set up?
gdoggy....woof ....woof....Whats up baby?:toast:
AMD bundles stuff bad.. http://www.amdmicrosoftretailtour.com/
LOL.....I gotta ask whats up with the cat video:D
What's up Cam? Over here causing trouble for people I see.
I think you might be a little biased. My findings differ in that for the length of time the platforms have had to mature they are quite far along.
Cliffy Baby whats up? Don't know man I am not impressed with it as of yet but the Infinity 975X/G was a flakey board and I did not like it at all even tried another one and same deal, So yes my opinion at this point may be biased! I will be getting a EVGA 680i A1 in a couple of day's and we will see if my opinion changes and I will be more than willing to admit if I was wrong and jumped the gun with my staement. Until that time I don't like the new Intel and the Infinity was one of the more mature chipsets so we will see!
1) there is nothing wrong with changing your current position when important information comes around. This isn't about sticking to one thing, it is about doing the job better than anyone else.
2) If everyone tried to be consistent regardless of the facts, we would all be using VaXen w/ 4Mb of Ram and twin Tapes
3) must resist arguing the Kerry point >.<
get all 3 - well duh, what a surprise
hopefully that means "package" deals from retailers
Hey, That was a mistake and was to lazy to change it! But OK no sweat.
On topic:
3 would make sense when talking about CPU, Board, and GPU but is there more to it? Mainstream right now is what a dual core CPU and 1 GPU, so thats 3. Could it be the Crossfire + Physics that has been quite silent lately? I am really curious as to how the new graphics cards will perform when put in a DX10 environment. I want to see games like crysis in action. I also want to see what AMD has in store with K10. I wasn't really into computers all that much till after the X2 series came out so I want to see how each company reacts to the new tech. I really wish the AMD/ATI merger didn't happen, I believe we would see both products out much faster.
Off topic:
Well I would say the flakiest boards of them all were the ATI 3200 chipset boards. Half the stuff didn't work out of the box, it failed to beat nvidia or intel in OC, and what, there are 5 boards you can buy with the chipset? Core2Duo was my first OCing experience and it was easy as pie, I am completely unaware of this flakyness you speak of.
Buy the D.F.I Infinity 975X/G and you will see what I mean. I have not had other experiences with the new Conroe stuff outside of the initial bad experience with 2 different unstable Infinity 975X/G's so like I said if I am wrong I will admit it and have no problem doing so. But I see allot of experienced older heads going through 4-5 boards just to find something decent so yea to me that qualifies as flakey and prematture releases.
But Apples to Oranges its just my Opinion but you cant deni that the 975 is one of the more mature chipsets so at this point I myself cant report anything but negative experiences on my end but as I also initially stated they O.C very easily so it does have that going for it sop I will see whats up with the EVGA 680i A1 and quite possibly retract my initial statement.
@gdogg.....thanks for the vote of confidence.
AM2+ is DDR2 only sockett, AM3 is DDR3 sockett.

R600 + K10 + RD790+
yeah ^^
Umm...I don't to be truthful but that won't be a concern for me as the 2 Barcelona Quad Core's will be going into a Dual Socket F Server board and after a little while I will get something on the entheusiast end.
To answer you're question or remark the answer is yes I prefer AMD over Intel any day of the week as their is a more fluent and natural feel to AMD vs Intel Platform but thats due to the memory controller placement.
I have had numerous Intel System's in the past and a few AMD systems so I can make my own direct comparison as to which I prefer and for me its AMD before Intel.
The reason why I see people are more sure an amd will overclock w/o hassles is, the IMC and HT, they both make it so motherboard manufacturers have very little left to do.
But you go from a64 to conroe, then you got a north bridge that needs to stable, fsb straps, fsb clocks, then the worst part heat :woot: .
Its very easy why someone would be confident with a board, that leaves only the southbridge left to make right lol.
But the IMC can also stop some overclocks in there tracks, as it clocks with the processor.
Ya, you are 100% correct on that gdogg but to me something about the way Intel responds vs AMD eh kinda hard to eplain but its almost like the way sata drives felt in use when they first became mainstream it was almost a unatural feel compared to a fast Pata drive but thats not the case now at least the high capacity ones anyhow. I guess for me its just a personal hang up between AMD and Intel
