K10 is gonna be a better CPU

There seems to have been a major clock speed increase from the previously stated 1.9GHz to 2.1GHz Agena chips. AMD has managed to increase the clock speed by 300MHz for the 89W TDP and 500MHz for the FX lineup, while keeping a very low "true" TDP (or has AMD converted yet?)
Assuming the 40% improvement holds (should be true for the quad cores, maybe not as true for the dual cores),
A 2.4GHz quad core Agena should equal a 3.36GHz Kentsfield
A 2.6GHz quad core Agena FX should equal a 3.64GHz Kentsfield XE.
A 2.8GHz dual core should equal a 3.9GHz Conroe
This move surely means that these chips will be much more competitive with Penryn et al. However Penryn has the new vector SSE4 instructions (doesn't Agena only have a subset?), so in multimedia I would expect Penryn to win.
Anyone care to guessimate the prices for the Phenom X4 @ 2.4Ghz or the Phenom X2 @ 2.8Ghz?
What ballpark price ranges are we talking about here? $1000? $800? $500 for the Phenom X4?
$500+ for the Phenom X2?
And, also is it now confirmed these processors are coming out Q3 instead of the abysmal Q4 or Q1 2008 predictions some people were talking about?
XeRo
we are aware of spec_int/fp-rates, sandra and 3dmark :)
Phenom, the name says it all. Just like "Athlon" which made up to it's name.
Athlon is the greek word for "contest " or " prize/reward ". Depends on the interpretation.
Phenom is a slang for Phenomena, which means an "impressive or remarkable" thing. It got to be something.
:)
Kinda odd they dont even bench vs the same OS:
And the specs of the K10 aint nowhere to see.Quote:

alright: are you pronouncing Phenom as "fee-nom" or as in the word "venom".
I'm in the fee-nom camp.
What happened to the other AMD thread? I had posted some good info in that thread.
It went away after ppl started crapping it...much like Shintai, Jack and Thunderstruck intend to do here.
Perkam
Well, its hard not to go that way when poeple start the hype and imagination engine.
PS3, RD600, R600 and Conroe+Penryn all took that path lately. Nobody seems to object when someone hypes it up. But if someone disagree to get back to a sane level its all crapping, fanboism and more
Lets look...
PS3 wasnt the super killer console.
RD600 didnt clock and perform in a godlike fashion.
R600 seems to be a 8800GTS competitor now.
Conroe didnt perform 50% better, but more like 20%.
Penryn wont be 4Ghz.
And we could go on. Yet its blasphamy to say K10 wont be the miracle on earth.
So perhaps crapping should be defined when people mix dreams with reality :stick:
AMD management is telling whoppers to shareholders about why they are not releasing any actual Barcelona benchmarks.
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/r...ge_id=19393127
i cracked up listening to hector's and dirk's response to a shareholder's question about why they aren't painting the world with barc info.
the answer was that if barc info was public, powerful, fast-follower intel could come up with a competitive response too quickly.
any shareholder who believes that crap deserves what they get.
if amd really has something unique it would take a product cycle for intel to respond. if it isn't unique and merely some "innovative" benchmarking they're toast anyway.
And yet how many people here believe EVERYTHING that comes out of ol Hector and Dirk's mouths like it is the Gospel?
All execs are lying. If they weren't good liars, they wouldn't be good execs. :p:
