7 months after buying my $450.00 ATI card and not even a set of decent drivers produced to date and you or anyone else is suprised?
lollers...then you've been reading the headlines and not the articles...we've known since the name HD 2900XT first came about (or at least I've known :p ) that the XTX will not launch until later.
Why on earth would you think there wasn't a single mention of an XTX card...seriously...its like you guys went back in time and erased all of that and come back today to say "WTF is going on ?!?!?"
For those that didn't know...its understandable to feel this way...but it won't change ATI's plans to take the performance lead.
Esau. This thread isn't about drivers...
Perkam
I know Perkam I know ......but I would say thats a major problem for any hardware company especially if it deters pottencial or existing customers from buying their product more so if they are bad shape finacially!
My self I don't care what they make if they don't pull the hooks out of their asses with this driver issue they will not see another ducket one from me!
I've read the articles and I've read DAAMIT representatives claiming they will launch the complete lineup and nothing less... I don't care when they mentioned whether or not the XTX will be launched at the same time...
The point is those executives talk to much and deliver the opposite... The deadline is coming near and all I'm seeing, reading and hearing is the opposite of the claims those people made in the first place...
I don't know about you but as an ATi consumer this feels like those in charge their don't know [censored] about anything... which makes me wonder if my current X1900XTX gets replaced by another ATi product...
excuse me if i'm wrong, but wasn't this already known?About the XTX pushed back?
I just wish they'd get their act together. This is pathetic.
I find digitimes to be more reliable than fudzilla, but can someone confirm that R600, HD 2900 XT specifically, will be 65nm and not 80nm....
i'm lost here...first it was 80nm,then 65nm,then 80nm again,and now again 65???
The 2900XT is 80nm. It's RV630 and RV610 that are 65nm. R650 (to come later this year) will be 65nm for the high end part.
so supposedly 2900XTX=R650=65nm?
correcto.
hmmm god sake, so it looks like I'm waiting on R650...... *sigh*
No way can I accept second best, just not in my nature unless of course I can overclock the graphics card to 65nm and more RAM/faster RAM
This actually works out for me. Should have my house remodelled by then so I could spend a bit more time with the pc, or the chick.
That's not what Fuad is saying FWIW.

ATI's 65 nanometre part codenamed R650 is here to fight Nvidia next generation chip called G90.

R650 as far as we know will just be faster version of R600 chip without any major marchitectural changes. Both of these chips are expected by the end of the year, sometimes in Q4 but don’t be so naïve and trust ATI on its deadline. It traditionally messed up the launch date of every chip in the last eighteen months.
I think you are mixing up nvidia and ATI there ;) nvidia has the driver issues, ATI's drivers for the most part have been fine. 6.5 was fine, 6.10 was fine, now 7.4..... I have the X1950XT and no problem driver-wise.
Remember guys, this IS fudzilla we are talking about, aren't they about on the same level as the inq? Maybe there is a reason for them being called FUDzilla. Guess we'll wait and see.
Really and you'll be running at full power to eat up that extra 48-96W on the 80nm is not going to add up to another card in a year.
In my area its 8 cents a kilowatt, relatively cheap. Heres a big if, but IF you get a 40% savings on the card saying the card is 240W stock and some how manage to run it 24/7, 365 days a year that extra 96W of power you'd be using comes up to $67 a year. Unless its going to be sucking that much power doing folding for a full year straight no power interruptions and no down time you will not come even close to a card price if lucky maybe 1/3rd of the price in a years time. As well doubt it really hits that mark in power usage, the 8800GTX doesn't even hit its TDP.
Yes it is. You conveniently left out the interim paragraph:
So what they're saying is R600-R650 is just a die shrink, which will allow higher clocks, less heat, and less power. They will make no marchitectural change in the shrink.Quote:
At 65 nanometre ATI can go much faster and it will solve the thermal dissipation and power problems.
I play games a lot and I know the price I pay for it :fact:
Well let's say you buy a high end card = £400. So every month I spend in it £20. So in a year will be £240, after 1 year the price will drop to £240 and you just buy another card to make crossfire.;)
The Inquirer is better now that Fuad left. He was the one posting a lot of the B.S. before. FUDzilla is now mostly his stuff so overall it should be MUCH worse than The Inquirer. I frankly don't trust anything he writes, but it is some interesting speculation.
Actually...
I can't remember if it was 3.8 or 3.9, but they messed up the shadows in GT3 of 3dmark03 on the 9800pro/xt, as well as in the indoor sections of far cry. They were literally little boxes put together to form shadows.
The first few drivers for the x800xt/xtpe/pro also only allowed the card to use 128mb of it's 256mb. It was cat 3.9 or 4.0 that fixed that issue. It may have been 4.1, I can't remember off the top of my head.
There's still been driver issues for both camps.
