trans am , get the driver here - http://www.tcmagazine.com/comments.p...=14586&catid=3 (no point waiting for Guru3D :D ). Cheers!
They never gonna change system or name of drivers ?
I mean "158.16" ?
lol You already paid for it. more like they finally allowed you to use your card properly.:stick: should have worked this good form the start. I do not see this @ 30% increase tho....and also notice that most gains are only noticed in synthetic benchmarks...in other words...not in daily usage.:fact:
this confuses me as well. nvidia just started their 100-series of drivers and is already reaching revision 158? wtf?
does this indicate that the g90 will eventually have 2xx drivers?
G80-600 -400 -200 may be G80 cores made into 8600, 8400 and 8200 cards.
It's more than one benchmark...

Read thru this thread. Some of the gains seen are rather massive... Especially in 3dmark03.
Yes, I agree that the gains CAN be signifcant, however, because they are not "across the board", what theyhave done is quite obvious.:fact:.
Well it's an instruction they finally 'enabled'....it's not like they opened up more shaders, you're not going to get across-the-board gains.
There is pretty much gains across the board, only thing that doesn't seem to have any gains is OpenGL.
Everything else seems to have increased in performance. :fact:
The IQ stayed the same too, so they didn't drop image quality for performance, if that's what you're thinking.

Looks like ATI's 24x AA just got trumped by nVidia. Incase you are wondering where it's from, it's in the link Gorgul posted.Quote:
Now again officially SLI Antialiasing Modis (SLi8x, SLi16x, SLi32xQ) surely also integrated innovation! These do not have I so far however for performance examined if desired can I that gladly retrieve.
Uh, you hit the nail on the head, drove it home, and then forgot.
What happened to OpenGL? No performance gains to be had? If they have enabeld an extra funtion, then gains across 3dmarks would be VERY obvious, and would correlate with one another, as the instruction directly translates to the number of rendered triangles/pixels/whatever....so, if you get 30% performance in video, then video performance increases 30%... ACROSS THE BOARD. 600 points in 3dmark06 DOES NOT =1000points in 03...more like 300-400 points in 06 = 1000 points.
Most performance is gained by driver optmization for specific applications...less cpu overhead, etc, which in real-word performance translates into very little. Sure, SYNTHETIC benchmarks show the gains, but they are designed to stress certain parts of a system, not full system, so it's easy to optimize a driver for such. There's no "extra functionality" enabled...merely "functionality fixed".
This card is DX10 card, not DX9, so the way you approach how graphics are rendered onscreen plays important role...and drivers are far more important, as teh driver must properly fill the gpu with data so as to use it most effectively. It's very obvious that in previous verions there are driver issues...the simple "change desktop res for good scores in 3DMark03" speaks volumes of how badly optimized the nV drivers have been lately.
The gains seen here do not speak of extra functionality, just a better driver, with bwetter profiles for specific apps, and not "across the board" gains touted by some.
didnt try play with this driver yet , i only run the CSSource BENCHMARK & 3Dmark 2005 to compare with 97.94
yes i have BFG 8800gts 320mb
in 2k6 with 8600GTS also a boost of 200 marks
- Nvidia 8600GTS --- 101.02 drivers >>>> 5513 Marks
- Nvidia 8600GTS --- 158.16 drivers >>>> 5719 Marks

Souds to me like Nvidia is trying to pull a fast one on us like they used to do with 3dmark... I hope this is a REAL performance increase and not a cheat.
It's a synthetic benchmark tweak..aka a load of bollocks.
I am sure that it IS real performance, but very specific gains in specific apps. I think this is much more likely to be 8800Ultra driver tweaks, which, when added with a clockspeed increase, greatly meets expectations in performance for the rumoured part.
BTW...there is no "missing MUL", IMHO. There's missing geo-shader functionlity in DX9...which does not support geometry shading except in specific apps, a la Ageia. Once DX10 titles come out, there will be yet another driver that gives the gains that people are looking for here, but only in DX10 titles. Until such time as these titles are available, it does not make sense for them to spend man-hour resources "adding the missing MUL" until it can actually be used. This is further bolstered by nV employee stating over the weekend or late last week that they mis-judged the amount of work they would have in dealing with these products and the myriad of driver versions for all of the current OSes in use(XP, Vista, Linux, x86 and x64).
