Well, if they are losing market share even with the price cuts, think about how much more market share they would lose if they don't cut prices. I wonder how much R&D and retooling it costs to do MCM, cuz if K10 is more than half a year away, if AMD come out with a stop gap quad core (with two Brisbanes) and sell it for $200-250, they should get back quite a bit of market share from the video editor and renderer segments.
yeah a cheap-ass-brisbane-based-quad-core would be lovely

Theres little or no retooling required/needed. MCM is all assembly/packaging related design, similar to dye stacking or system-in-package.
But their pride of not using MCM is hurting their market share right now.

Wrong. 2.5 Ghz, 512kb L2 cache per core.
There are no 65nm processors with 1 MB of L2 cache per core. Instead, AMD raised the multiplier by a half. 100 MHz makes up the difference of cutting the amount of L2 cache in half.

Is it really that MARKET SHARE-THING? This must be some bigger strategy, and its concerning what AMD has to do to "keep up" with Intel today, I hope the K10 will be released ASAP ...
Maybe they need cash to manufacture K10? We, or atleast I know ;) that dropping prices makes more people buy - and in the end one makes more money :) Maybe that's the strategy?
