let me save you guys from hell http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=137832
Take a careful look at the chart and you guys will soon figure out that the fans people banished from the forums are actually better than yates, scythe, etc. Big thanks to our favorite super mod, VAPOR!!!!
Sorry IanY, there's gonna be a lot of people fighting over your fans :(
I have 3x noctua 1200 on my pa120.3 and are very pleased with them. I havent tried any other fans though. My temps are 31c idle on my 7800gt (overclocked) and 27c idle on my amd x2 2ghz (overclocked to 2.5). Good enough for me, and they are silent.
If you undervolt to 7v, its almost impossible to hear them.
Ricbus,
Are you using them in a push or pull configuration? Have you tested both ways?
I have 3 Noctua's coming in tomorrow and 3 Papst 4112 fans on order. Considering the papst should be pushing over 10 CFM per fan more, at the same dB, than the noctua's through the rad, i'm interested in testing the papst's against the noctua's.
Do you notice a temperature difference between higher and lower volts on the Noctua's?
Much appreciated,
Dan
Serialk11r,
Its not going to happen. Marci and Cathar like Yate Loons, so everyone's going to keep loving Yate Loons :) Plus Petra is promoting the Scythe S-Flex heavily as well.. look at the number of people buying Scythe now!!! :)
Like I have always said, someone with stature yells out that there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, you'll see the faithful go.. "oh yeah" :) Look at the mentality of the guy on the first page of this thread... its like.. "we're experts here.. we all like Yate Loons.. just ask around... why do you insult me by suggesting that I look at the air cooling section!! after all, we're all experts !!! " lol :)
Anyway, my source knows my appetite for what I like, and FrozenCPU has 40 of those in stock, plus I've found another secret source which will remain secret, and I have a contact within the manufacturer itself, which is about 40 minutes away from where I live. My supply is assured :)
I ordered 3 Papst's too. That said, I'm not certain that vapors' findings are accurate. Just because some guy in the air cooling section did some testing doesn't mean we have an answer, now does it? Question the paradigm, find answers that hold water and others will know it.

For example, the above findings
Naw... I just got another thirty.. yes.. not a typo :)
Incidently, silentpc did not test the FGML.. only the FGLL and FGL. There are large differences.
Trust me, I would be even more happy if the fans came in last place, then nobody would notice them, and I'll get to buy as many as I want at a lower price :)
I have 5 of the Scythes, they have noticeable motor noise compared to the Yate Loons. They spend their days in the closet now!
Yep, all of them are S-Flex SFF21F.
The reason I use yates are because they work and they are quiet and they happily run on a fan controller without issue. They are also cheap :)
Everything I want is rolled into one fan.
Got nothing to do with what ever anyone else uses. They do a good job and no one can deny that. Truth is, it's a fan. I've tried so many fans which claim to be better, but I keep going back to yates.
Not as if the design can be radically different from one to another, so any fan around the same RPM and thickness will be pushing the same type of air. Unless you are notcua and design the blades different, and then get crap air pressure.
As to noise, it will just depend on if it's brushless etc.
Iīm currently using push (from air outside the case). Havenīt tried pull yet. Itīs because i mountet my watercooling yesterday, and are on vacation now. About the temperatures between high and low volt I donīt know the temperature differense, I just tested them on lower volts to hear how much sound they made. Iīll try it in one week :)
I have Scythe SFF21D S-FLEX rather than F's. I bought one of D, E and F to try, and the Ds were so quiet I immediately wanted more. The E is good too, and very quiet, but the F is not quiet at all.
I can't hear the D types unless I go really close to them, almost by my ear.
I can't hear the E types if the case is closed.
I can hear the F type very well, from a distance, with the case closed :)
If you don't mind a little noise (sit a few feet from the case) I think the E's are at a sweet spot.
I don't believe any of these fans are designed to work particularly well with a fan controller: hence the three different types, but that's supposition - I haven't tried a fan controller with any of them and don't own one.
So to summ up Papst 4412FGML it the way to go for wather cooling :D
