The first part of the stepping will end in a "F". For example: MCBBF

that applies to all the 90nm am2 chips. my old sempron is LBBVF ;) (it's still revF after all, just F2 instead of F3)
the difference is in the OPN
single core F3's end in DH, like mine
the dual cores use CZ

go to stepping and select "F3", then open another window and check out F2, notice the difference :D
just for the heck of it put it down to stock speeds to see how much i could undervolt it, right now i am running orthos at 0.96v and load is 30-33c on air
Hstuehmeyer200, I would like to know, is that Opty 1212 Rev. F3 a HE (highly efficient) or not ? WHat do you guys think have more potential for higher clocks, 1216 or 1216HE? I cant find a usuall 1216 ending with CZ at newegg, like ozzimark described. I bought a 4600+EE once, and it was a bad overclocker, that is why I am asking.
wow nice CPU
too bad about the performance
as far as i know, mine is not an HE
Ok, I found a guy on ebay that is selling used Optys 1218 (he have 5 of them) that ends on CZ for 224 bucks. Do you think I shoud go for it? Or shall I buy HE version instead?
can you see if the new mix help overcome coldbug?
i'm planning on getting some dry ice this weekend, we'll see how it goes
newegg has cz optys now. hopes someone buys and tries

Dang...
This is going to make my newly bought F2 x2 3800 look kinda :banana::banana::banana:e.
Oh well get what you pay for.
Any more DC results?
wow, thats pretty good
i am getting my dfi infinity sli-m2 tommorrow, i will post some results after school

lemme know if you notice superPI to be somewhat slower than it should be. i couldn't manage to get a better time than this:
http://www.eclipseoc.com/image/cpu/a64_4000/24.922.png
i ran it and i got 29sec with processor running at 3.1 and 512mb ram running at 400mhz 5-5-5-12-t2 2.1v
This weekend or next I'm likely ordering the DFI INFINITY CFX3200-M2/G:
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=MB-I-32M2G
I plan to buy Sempron 64 3000+ Manila 1.6GHz in an attempt for 100% overclock which is unlikely except at sub-zero temps but will be fun to try:

Then later I'll buy an Opteron 1212 HE for more overclocking fun and everyday use:

Still undecided on RAM. I can't spend too much, so nothing really exotic. Looking at $200-$300 for 2GB kit:

Also planning on using Enzotech heatsinks on the North and South bridge chips if they fit:

Also being that this is the boring Infinity version with no Lanparty UT version of this available I plan to mod the board with UV paints/pens:
http://www.overclock.net/case-mods-g...e-modders.html
looks like a great config. Im thinking of picking up an X2 65nm when the prices drop with an ATI chipset board. I was thinking of getting an MSI K9A but this looks very interesting. Let me know how your board works out for you. Im also getting the enzotech heatsink for the nb. Very interested in seeing your results. :toast:
I'll start buying stuff this weekend, it will take me several weeks before I have everything. I was tempted for a while to get the Epox version:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813123022
Then I found a source at eWiz for the DFI Infinity board which is cheaper, has an external eSATA port, slightly better audio chipset, and is sure to be a good overclocker with support for Opteron chips.
I really, really wanted the Lanparty UT version which they made for socket 939 and were going to come out for AM2 but I guess they decided it wouldn't make enough money and got distracted by the Core 2 Duo version which was probably the most hyped board ever.
Makes sense to buy a cheaper cpu soon and then buy the Opteron 1212 HE sometime after the April price cuts. Plus I just want to see how far I can overclock the Sempron, although I expect only 2.6-2.7ghz on air at best, I hope I can push it further.
Also found this:

I imagine you should hit close to 3 ghz, those Semprons seem to be excellent overclockers.
i got my dfi and it doesn't oc as well as the tforce, i think it is because my psu is a POS, i can't wait till ocz sends my replacement for my gsx 600w(they have had it for a 1.5-2wk's and they still haven't sent me one?)
I ran into a complete hard wall with my AM2 Sempron 2800+ around 2.5GHz. 300x8 = 2.4GHz is fine @ 1.5V (runs Orthos for hours), 320x8 = 2.56GHz is stable enough for a 3DMark06 run but fails Orthos within minutes. 325x8 boots Windows and I can run other benches (like S&M) but fails Orthos instantly. More Vcore (up to 1.75V) doesn't help :( Strange since I can get it to POST at 370x8 @ 1.5V no problem. Heat is not an issue either, I'm using water cooling and it's only @ 30C load.
Anyway, it's fine as something to hold me over until the April 9 price cuts :)
who do i know its a f3 rev?
any telltale sign? or is it just based on the manufacture date?
Ozzie broke it down above, check the OPN of the CPU
This Opteron 1210s OPN is OSO1210IAA6CZ, so it is a rev. F3
