Well, right now I'm posting from the exact same system as before with one exception.
The exception is I'm using an ASUS P5N-E SLI 650i motherboard
And its still not working? If so I´d guees its either the PSU, Ram or optical drive thats at fault.
Im not "sure" about anything ;)
Considering how many possible combinations there is in all the hardware he´s tried its getting kinda hard to pin things down doesnt it? ;) I just know that if I were him I´d start from scratch with parts verified to be working in other setups, and exchange pata/sata cables etc, reset cmos etc etc. Get back to basics as it were :)
Can it possibly be that he´s missing diver/s for something? How about installing vista, does that work? Linux? Win98? The different Win XP cd´s that hes tried, are they copies from the same "original" disks? When he did manage to boot into safemode, were there any unrecognised hardware? Is bios set at default values? RAM in bios by SPD or manual? Doesnt seem to me like he´s out of options by far.
SLI, PClinuxos is another great linux, has a few issues with 8800gtx's though, it's not easy getting the 3d drivers to work, especially from thew gui..
Still strange you are having that boot issue, I just flashed to the latest Intel bios (15 march) and all's well. I wonder if it's more specific to raid etc..

Raja
Well, I've tried full versions of Win XP Pro and Win Server 2003 as well as a nlite cutdown version of Win XP. I've tried loading the raid and ACHI drivers as well as not loading the drivers in each of the bios options of ide, RAID and ACHI. This was done for drives both in a RAID 0 array and singularly using both the Intel Matrix and Mavell SATA ports and Sata controllers.
All the parts are verified to be working in other setups, I have never had this problem with any of the four other motherboards I've owned so far and I basically directly swapped out the Intel BadAxe for an ASUS P5N-E SLI and it installed windows first try and hasn't missed a beat so far.
I've tried three separate RAM kits using manually set timings and voltages as well as leaving them left on auto. I've also tried increasing the chipset and RAM voltages and decreasing the FSB speed incase it was a chipset issue. The RAM kits also run memtest error free.
With the current BIOS I booted into safe mode and manually updated the unrecognised hardware which was the SM Bus Controller and the VGA hardware. Once updated the same problem occurred.
I don't have a copy of vista but I have downloaded a few versions of linux which I might try if the lates 2674 BIOS doesn't fix it. I think the fact that the exact same hardware works when only the motherboard is changed would suggest pretty firmly where the issue is.
I've tried 7800GTXs as well and have the same problem but flashing to the 2674 BIOS is my next step.
I initially tried RAID but have since just been trying to get a single HDD to install without success.
Well, the fact that you've tried 2 different Bad Axe 2s and the fact that XP installs fine for a whole bunch of us suggests that it's not the motherboard either. I'm stumped. Maybe Asus has a new BIOS feature that beams gamma rays over the competition's boards.
Try linux. See what happens.
