I fixed the instability of PC A (the random reboot / BSOD) ... replaced MB with an ABIT AB9 Pro.. Installed hardware ... Loaded XP .. Loaded Drivers ... Loaded bunch of Apps .... no Problems ... This was my wifes new PC and I just got fed up with "that look" after yet another BSOD ..
Will now start again from Scratch (have 2 MB's to play with) trying to get a stable ASUS P5B deluxe config working as my PC with Crossfire ... watch this space
Tried rolling back BIOS from 1004 today - used a old version of AFUDOS which allowed me to roll back to 614.. However always got a "overclocking setup error" on boot .. F1 to set up F2 to install defaults etc ..
Cleared CMOS numerous times, tried loading defaults, removed battery etc etc .. could not get passed the "error" .. so the warning on ASUS website about 1004 cannot be rolled back from looks to be correct ...
Loaded 1004 again and could save a config in the CMOS and get a clean boot
Last remaining problem is I cant get the ATI X1950 XT-X Graphics and the onboard SoundMax to "play nice" with each other ... If I enable both and load relevant drivers .. I get a blue screen..
I have "stability" with the Onboard sound disabled in CMOS and a old Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio Soundcard installed and creative drivers loaded..
Finally have a working / Stable PC .....
As per my earlier post the P5B deluxe on board Audio and the 3D Connect 1950 XT-X Graphics AVIVO just would not play together ... I was able to get a PC built using an External Audio Card
My Final Solution for the two PCs was an ABIT AW9D-MAX (used because of crossfire support) and an ABIT AB9 Pro for the non Crossfire one
So I have 2 "spare" and to the best of my knowledge "working" ASUS P5B Deluxe MB's sat here doing nothing ... I know many of you guys love these cards so they are going cheap to any one in the UK who wants to give them a go. Otherwise I'll ebay them
I should never have left ABIT MB's as I have used NF7-S's for years and have always rated ABITs build and stability
