Kunaak, thank you very much for your work.

I'm tweaking the board as we speak for an upcoming review, and to say it has a steep learning curve is just an understatement :D

Many of the things you talk about are also true in my experience, especially the D9 tweaking is very much as you say :) The only thing I absolutely cannot confirm is the Quad core results : I'm still struggling to get 330FSB stable with my QX6700, and don't really know what's holding me back... Have to work some more on the quad though, as I feel more time brings more answers with this board :D

Hi , thanks for the tips and tricks i have gone upward from 500 - 600 Mhz on my ram in one go , as like yours mine wouldnt boot at 510 , 520 ect but at 600 its fine running ram at 5-4-4-12 so very pleased

Yeah it seemse strong here to...stability is a fact.
However what puzzles me is that after using that divider I am able to boot at 400mhz with settings it wouldn´t even boot before.

no real puzzle...

you got a divider thats now stable.
see, most bioses over the years have had really solid and really hard to work with dividers...

like the old Asus P4P800... great at 1:1 and 5:4... hard as hell to work with 3:2.

Asus P5B Deluxe.

all ratios solid, except 4:5...
just flat out buggy and hard to keep stable in most cases.
works great at mild FSB's but you lose OC ability quick if you try too much.

DFI 975X... 1:1 was pretty horrible (in the early bioses) and 4:3 was amazing. (only Conroe board I tried that had lower then 1:1 ratios so far)
but like always DFI came back and made that board pretty nice, after thier latest update, with alittle help from Oskar, now its not uncommon to see people doing 440+ on that board.

same is true with this board...

find the best dividers, and go with it.
test them.
5:6 works great for me, and a few others, but I also hinted that 9:11 divider works pretty damn good for me too, why not give that one a try?
might work good for you too. :)

Kunnak Here´s another confirmation of your 5:6 theory :)
This is all done with an ambient temp at 17-18" C...TT Big Typhoon VX for the cpu and Thermalright HR-05-SLI on the NB and SB

I also tried max FSB. At this speed the NB had serious problems holding lower latencies...couldn´t run anything than AUTO setting, even thoug I set the same values manualy. Here´s a pic:

Strange thing is resluts below is max FSB for suicide shoots...only 1mhz higher and little tighter timings than the pic above with SPI16M. Usually there would be more headroom between max SS and benchable numbers. I tried both higher and lower voltage...I also tried a fan with higher cfm rate and I tried diffirent dividers and memsettings...but it just wouldn´t boot higher.

that makes me very happy to see 500 stable on a full conroe. :)

it seems the 5:6 ratio is definatly among the best ratios to OC with.

on a side note, 4 ghz stable on air with a E6600, goddamn I like that.
thats a CPU I wish I could play with.

update on Quad Core....

seems I've hit a snag.
one thats been driving me nuts for the last 2 days.

I can boot up nearly every time at 8 x 450 at 3.6 ghz easy... but I've only made it into windows once.
why is this driving me nuts?

cause the first time I tested quad core on this board, I was using air cooling, and I got it into windows at 3.6 ghz about 10 times, ran super pi, looked at temps and everything and it was all fine...
then I took it out, and ran it in my P5B Deluxe for the last few weeks...
then 2 days ago, put it back in this board... and now I can't seem to replicate the earlier success I had.
it's been driving me nuts...
the board will boot at 3.6 (8x450) everytime... but wont make it into windows any higher then 360 anymore...
why theres such a large gap between bootable speeds, and windows bootable speeds is whats been driving nuts...

especially since the first day I got this CPU, I was doing 3.6 ghz just fine on this board.... on air cooling....

why could I do it a month ago, on lesser cooling, but not today, with the same board and same CPU on better cooling??
and I spent hours trying to figure, what did I do differently the first time??
and I just can't get it to work again.

all I can do right now, is get it to boot at 450... not make it into windows.

Nice thread kunaak. This board is funny with dividers, and even funnier that high FSB & Ram speeds are slower - at least in every config I have tried. Here's the Beta Clockgen for this board :)

man, I feel dumb.
I helped franck get the CPUZ data working for the 680i by doing constant dumps and sending them for him.... and then asked about a clockgen way back in november, and we never really followed up on it.

should have figured he would have gotten one by now. :D

(took franck less then a day to get CPUZ working with the 680i, that guy always knows how to get things working first)

Seems you hit about the same FSB wall I've been at all week long with my QX6700... I've tried about every combination of chipset and VTT voltages by now, and nothing seems to be getting me over 350 stable (orthos). I thought maybe it was my bios (running beta 702), but I guess not...

For me 9:10 divider is most stable yet. It's the closest to 1:1 as I can get stable, and I can get higher on FSB or RAM freq because crappy memory is holding me back; it's Geil 800 Ultra 4-4-4-12 rated at 2.1V, it can barely make rated timings and freq on rated volts, and on higher volts i gets incredibly hot (I burnt myself) and unstable. I guess they don't use D9s anymore.
Anyway thenks Kunaak, your hints helped me a lot.
I'll try to get more juice of this board as soon as I get better RAM sticks.

If you put your quadcore in after using conroe the board will disable 2 of the cores.

If you reset cmos the other 2 will come online. That could be why you were hitting that high fsb while others are still dieing around 350 or so.

anytime I change CPU's I clear the CMOS, plus, as far as I know... removing the CPU will clear the CMOS by default...

Not on the P5N32-E. Going from a E6600 to a Q6600, I couldn't figure out why it kept my exact settings but I only had 2 cores. It was weird I was the only one that had a 680i that did 450x8 while others couldn't even get 350, then I figured out that I only had 2 cores. Going to 4 cores I couldn't boot windows over 338 or so.

You seem to be experiencing the same thing.

so 450 is indeed possible on these with quad core.
the problem?

the videocard.

too much videocard power greatly reduces your stability.
I have 1000 watts of power here, but removing the 8800 GTX and putting in my 6200 TC. is what finally got me into windows....

450 with Qaud Core and 680i.

Curious as what the 12V rail is rated for in amps on your psu? I remember reading one of the mods stating in the thread about the 20 core cluster the quads need a really strong 12V rail.

I would also like to say that after reading your post my life as a 680i owner/overclocker has gotten much easier with the striker. If I couldn't get settings to post I would bump voltage and then again, only to give up and go for new settings, yet always wondering what I needed to get those settings to boot. Now I know that those settings/ratios the board just does not like and instead of playing the voltage game play the ratio game.

I remember your 3500LL's as my set which I am running right now got stronger with volts.

So what dividers are the strongest for you? I've gathered you really like 5:6 and it seems 10:13 w/ volts and 9:10.

I am playing with my striker right now and my board does not like 5:6. My board won't boot w/ FSB 400 and mem 480, but boots no problems with FSB 400 and mem 500, which is 4:5. Armed with this new information I think I can finally figure out how to push my memory.

I have a 750 watt single rail PSU from PC Power and Cooling, the Silencer 750, that has 60 amps on a single 12 volt rail.
I have that PSU paired up with a 250 watt VGA PSU from Thermaltake, powering the videocard when I use the 8800 GTX.

NB = 1.6 volts.
SB = usually Auto.
CPU VTT = max always 1.55 volts.

shamino already touched the high end GPU relationship with kentsfield max FSB limits.. yup high end GPUs will lower max FSB for kentsfield.
