DFI LP UT ICFX3200-T2R/G memory Issues

Looking at one of the corners of the Digital Power Heatsink, there appears to be a smudge of what looks like an Artic Silver compound smudged over one of the surface mount resistors. Could this cause a fault on the PWM Circuit??

Probably just a "clutch & straws" self diagnostic effort on my part but we all know Artic Silver accross resistors is not a good thing. I just don`t know if DFI have used a silver based heat compound that would conduct electrically. Maybe a small amount of electrical bleed would topple the boards ability to supply enough juice to the ram??

The compound used visually appears to be similar to arctic silver, but as far as I can tell is not - it is non conductive. It's all over my nbridge, and on the smt resistors too, eveything is still ok and works fine..

If the TIM on PWM and NB was conductive, it would have fried the mobo... which didn't happen. I think the TIM is still better than thermal pad or "bubble gum" that you would usually find on most mobos.

I spect the softer compound has higher thermal properties.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say thanks to all the feedback from everyone. It really, really is appreciated. :clap:

I tried 3 local PC shops earlier today (Saturday) & no one had ANY DDR2 ram to test my board & don`t really want to use an RMA to be told it`s the RAM used & not the board. I`d sooner loose a nacker, than pay 10 quid to look a Prat! :D

Depending on Bingo13`s info from his findings on the Ram info I PM`d him, will suade my next move! If the ram just isn`t compatible, I`ll order some OCZ 1150 which will slot in with the water cooling project laid out for this system. I am slightly concerned at the higher performance series of ram requiring 2.3 - 2.5v & the board is defaulting at 1.88v. The trick I have read about is to use a cheap-Er ram stick to Post, up the the voltage & then switch the Ram. I could be £350 quid lighter & in the same boat!
Anyways, I can wait a bit more...! :cool:

Just a quick one at Tony:
Can you confirm the OCZ 1150 H20 Ram will allow this board to Post with a Defualt Set Bios voltage of 1.88v, presuming there isn`t an actual fault with the board?

according to coolaler's cpu-z validation/pics he's use'n g-skill F2-8000PHU2-2GBZX ddr2 1000's and no mention of any issues booting in his thread.

Chock this up to my intel ignorance but wouldnt it boot up at 266/533? i should sure as hell hope that ddr 1000+ could boot at 533@1.88vdimm:confused:

I`m really clutching at staws here. It`s now Monday afternoon & I still don`t know anything about my modules being incompatible. I know I`m just going to get more impatient from here on in! Perhaps I should just RMA it`s ass and suffer the consequences!

Since Bingo13 replied via PM, it would appear I need to buy some New ram.

Geil haven't responded in 3 days. - Lame!

Just gotta pay the Supplier a test fee (should the board be okay) & buy some more RAM. - Lame!

Despite seeing 2 DDR2 systems pass through my hands, I wasn't aware ever of SPD issues on the DDR2 platform. Thanks to Everyone for helping me get to the bottom of this, even if my own impatience cost me a test fee.

bummer. Well you shouldnt be worried about the high mhz dimms. my pc2 1000's booted up no problems.

This mornings Email rummage revealed I should have my New Board tommorow! The board I recieved was Faulty! - Dammit!
So glad I didn't buy more Ram just for the Crack! I am aware this doesn't mean i'm outta the "trees yet", but for now & in conclusion to this thread, my board was Fux0rd! :rolleyes:
Just for the record, I still havn't heard back from Geil about my queries RE their RAM. Quite unacceptable tbh! :stick:

This is the final update & conclusion, if any ONE conclusion can be got to, because I`m still not so sure about the board! I`m writing this in a post-card wrapped style to save boredom, so here goes:
Still no word from Geil.
New board took both sticks of Geil PC2 6400 on the bench without touching CMOS reset.
Whipped both 512 sticks of Geil out & threw in 2 1GB sticks of Geil PC4300. No Post. Pulled out 2 x 1gb sticks, put back in 2 X 512 - no post?
Tried 1 x 512mb stick in Slot 3 - No Post.
Tried other stick of 512 in slot 3, wheee POST again!?
Go for 2nd 512mb in slot 1 - no post.
Reset CMOS.
No Post with either 512Mb DIMM in Slot 3, 1, 2 or 4?
Take slot 3 512 out & throw BOTH 1GB PC2 4300
put in 2 x 1Gb Sticks - POST!?!?!? - Arrrrgh!

So yeah, my board is running but I`m so sh`t scared to reset CMOS in case the Ram don`t initialise & i`m not entirely sure what did what to get a Post dammit. :confused:
Anyway, I kinda got brave in the last 24 hours & upped the fsb over a period of stages to a very lame 366FSB. That puts this 2.4ES DUO @ nearly 3.3Ghz on a Pentium D Intel Cooler & air over the Northbridge. Interestingly, I haven't had to increase any Voltage anywhere other than putting the DDR @ 2.0v back at 300 fsb. (Just in case)
The 7950GX2 with 7300Mb/Sec bandwidth on the ram at 366Mhz 1:1 4-4-4-16 yeilds 50600 3DMark01 points - Not too shabby at all consideing the Ram is so poor! 1T speeds appear no different to 2T & yet 3T is definately slower.
Quite an impressive board so far in many respects but I had a refusal with Maxtor hard drives on the Southbridge which sucks.

I`m sure with the right ram & user, this board could be a bit of a flyer.

Would you happen to have any Gskill 2GBPK PC6400 / 4-4-4 to test on this board?
I have this mobo for the last 6 hours and still haven't seen a POST on it.

2x 1Gb Gskill 2GBPK DDR2-800
1x 512 Single sided Samsung DDR2-533
1x 512 Double sided Samsung DDR2-533

PSUs
Seasonic S12 600W - tried first the 8-pin and then the 4-pin.
OCZ Gamerxtreme 600W - Tried the 8-pin, then 1x 4-pin and then 2x 4-pin.

VGAs
BFG8800GTS & X600Pro (PCIe)

CPUs - plenty... From Celeron 2.933 to E6700 and X6800.


Always get the same C1 msg in the Port80 monitor.
I've already tried the following, ofcourse with no results...

- Clear CMOS
- 1 stick at the time, all stick tried on all slots.
- Reseated the 24 & 8-pin connectors
- Reseated the CPU h/s-fan
- Replaced the USB k/b for a PS2
- Removed/disconnected everything, bar the PSU, RAM, CPU, Fan & VGA.
- Played around with several jumpers (wake on USB, PS2, etc.)
- Did the reset/power on tricks


Nothing worked, board gives C1 and a long beep, regardless of whether I have RAM on it or not.
All RAM sticks are healthy, the Samsung ones came from my HTPC (and eventually returned and keep working fine) and the Gskill ones are being used atm on the system that I am using to write this post (AW9D)

Btw, I had a DS3 at some early stage, had the default vDimm issue (bought the board very early) and I used the 2 512 Samsung DIMMs for a period; worked just fine...


Any ideas before I RMA this board?

1st boot ever with the Board was with PC6400 2x1GB 2GBHK, no issues at all.

Tested so far:

GSkill PC6400 2GBHZ D9GMH
GSkill PC6400 2GBJS D9GMH
GSkill PC6400 2GBGA D9GKX
GSkill PC6400 2GBHK ????? (no D9s)

All worked as planed in combo with an Ennermax Galaxy 1kw PSU - or - an Antec Neo 550 - or my good old OCZ 600W PSU.

I can't run my corsair 8000UL on its spd timing.. I can't pass 400 fsb.. iether async or sync mod..

I think this board needs updated for some of the rams used..

I can only run my module ddr2 800 3 3 3 6 1T I cant pass the 400mhz mark..

my module is mark @ DDR2 1000 5 4 4 9 ..I can never reach this speed and timing..

please DFI fix this problems on your next update..

Maybe 1T is just too tight ? As Corsair does not test them 1T, they simply use 2T. Any results when you use 2T ?

I have no problem with any memories at 1T on this board. When you get C1 status, wait ....wait ....wait ..., MoBo will boot...

PS. I am blind but where is in BIOS CPU multiplier option? ?

Is this an issue of the default Vdimm that the DFI mobo is trying to boot the dimms with?

Is it worth changing the SPDs of my RAM to SSTL 2.5V (from default 1.8V)? That is ofcourse *if* this would be the solution to the C1 problem.
