Btw, NCIX really lets me down on this one. I guess I should have really ordered from DirectCanada. NCIX's excuse is that they have too much orders to ship out due to holidays. But it has taken them two business days and hasn't yet shipped out my order.
Another picture of everything together.

Thanks for the pictures! Keep us updated.
Dude... your talking about a e6700 agenst a 2 socket dual core setup? lol Not a QX6700 right?Quote:

Real World Quad FX Speed & Agility
Our real world testing today disproves my preconceptions entirely, and shows that in quite a few cases, the FX-74 is as fast, or even faster than the QX6700. We ran the numbers over and over again, and the FX-74 simply has the horsepower to compete with the QX6700 in the most CPU intensive applications. When the systems are completely maxed out and you’re running rendering, encoding, or multi-media applications, the difference between the two CPU’s is quite minimal, usually between 1 and 3 percent.
The quad FX isn't even a real quad core, it works in a similar way the QX6700 was made.
The QX6700 is 2 E6700's put together plan and simple, acts like a 2P thing only glued together on one socket, not even a real quad core like the pentium D wasn't a real dual core. Stock E6700 wouldn't come close to a 2P system unless you manage a 100% OC on a E6700 your being a bit over dramatic, and that kind of OC isn't going to happen on a E6700 any time soon stable or on anything but cascade. Nothing can come close to a 4P workstation if you want to talk about benchmarks look to some opteron 4P workstations. I like AMD and Intel but god people this crap has got to stop about how much the truth is bent. 1 core will not beat 2. 2 cores will not beat 4, 4 cores will not beat 8. Simple as that. If it where that easy we would still be on 1 core cpus.
Now will 4 core chips come out for this socket, and will they work in these mobos. Because an upgrade path like that sounds pretty nice...
the QuadFX should beat the QX6700 in pretty much every app that scales
very well with the addition of new cores (such as mentalray which scales ~99%,
or most modern renderers) and in multitasking situations (maya + mr rendering +
+ photoshop + fusion for example). Under Server2003 or Vista X64 of course.
And considering one buys a QuadPlatform for multithreaded apps/multitasking and
not games or what else, the QuadFX is a good option, performance/cost wise.
Though it consumes twice as much power as the QX6700 but on the other hand
this is a dual-cpu platform so you get an upgrade to 2 x Quad Altairs as soon as
they're available.
nice workstation platform imo.
yea but it is being marketed at enthusiasts afaik, not the pro-crowd
If you leave the flash on but then move away and use zoom mode then you might be able to reduce the flare effect.
Good luck with getting the motherbaord quickly.
Regards
Andy
alucasa, try to start your new system with only one fx installed.
and i wanna see bios setup screen photos -)
Gonna cancel my order with NCIX and reorder from DirectCanada.
According to NCIX's forum, people who ordered on 24th of Dec haven't gotten their shipment shipped.
Forget it, I am not going to wait weeks for it to arrive when I can have it by 5th (friday) of Jan.
Mentalray with maya scaled ~99% here on dual clovertowns. Compared to C2D. Its not really bandwidth demanding. I think you need to find some video encoding or something to see where it would scale better.Quote:

Ok, I am gonna ask the stupid question here........:stick:
Is that gonna be 2x2 or 2x4?????
Are them CPU's quad's or duels?????
2 dualcores, 4 cores if both sockets are used.Quote:

All good since I have the tracking number... except that they are invalid. It doesn't exist.
I called them again and they have no idea where my package is. They *think* it was shipped. But tracking # is invalid.
Now I cannot cancel the order since they think it was shipped.
God, I don't feel like using NCIX anymore.
alucasa, so when will you get your motherboard? on friday?
No idea.Quote:

Purolator has always made it to my home in one day. This would be the first case of taking actually more than one day in 5 years.
If so, then I suppose it will be here on Friday.
But this is all based on an assumed fact that NCIX did ship my package. The tracking number they provided in morning was invalid and is still invalid which by the way was entered into the system yesterday ... supposedly.
nice cpus you got there. i am very interested at the overclocks you will get with these. and i was also wondering once you get them sorted out and tweaked if you would put that rig on WCG for a week (more if you want:D ) because i am looking into a rig for the grid consisting of the same cpus and i would like to see how many points per day these things put out and how much cancer and aids research those puppies can do.
nice cpus:)
Hmm. Already here.
Are there any 06 numbers out there on these chips/mainboards yet?
unfortunately not! all hope in you and your skills!Quote:

So, friday it is.
