Required some welding, which is not something most people have access to, but a similar design could be made with nut & bolts as well.

As you can see I like to think outside the box. That design seems to almost totally isolate vibrations. Only the mounting screws touching the drives. And the rack is mounted on the case floor on acoustic foam. Even with the WD Raptor in there I have to put my ear down close to hear the drives at all.
interesting way to mount the hard-drives.
im thinking about using a peice of plexi glass and then some rubber between the hard-drives and the glass. maybe some acoutstic foam in the hard-drive cage as well.
Nice work . If you have the tools all things are possiable. May I ask how much your Dad is helping?
Very good planning nice layout.
This thread should be a sticky. On how to self build a case the correct way.
Nice work bro. Your future looks promising.
South Australia eh? How's the golf down there? I've always wanted to go on a little vacation :toast:Quote:

So I am sick once again. I got a little work done in between, I'll post the pictures right quick.
On another note, I'm looking for other boards to post this at since I'm trying to get as much coverage as possible. Any suggestions? I'm already on H, Bit-tech, and Gideontech.

Anand tech has a really nice case section. Lots of readers . Toms Hardware also.
Just so you know this should be a sticky here. I was surprized when I read it a weak ago. That it wasn't made a sticky.
Hope your feeling better soon.

Well, it was $30 more than I wanted to spend, and longer then would easily fit, but I like it none the less. I'm always impressed by the build quality of Black Ice rads. Happiness abounds.

A better angle of what's been cut thus far. I wont be cutting the holes for the PSU and the radiator shroud whatchamacallit until I get the shroud built and the radiator mounted to make sure everything lines up right. Tomorrow I'm going to rivet the rear and bottom panels together, I'm going to go with a single long bracket like the side panels as opposed to three small ones.

Building the motherboard mounts. The JB Weld should be all set up by Monday, so I'll be able to grind off the excess and give it a much cleaner look. Tomorrow's plan is to get them installed and get the cross support rod in place.

Mmmmm...I think there might be a few projects in there. The coolest thing is a box of wifi cards that form a secure network amongst themselves only, looks like they could yield all kinds of interesting adventures. Did I mention it was all free?
Thanks! I'll have the log up there in a couple minutes.Quote:

Looking good so far. Nice of you to share images as the project progresses.
I made a thread about your case a couple of weeks ago at this forum, I just linked to this thread. I am sure they would love to see your work log. http://www.ocforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20
Yes, that is how I found my way here Cole. Thanks
Haha, that's awesome. I cant believe how much interest there is over there! I brought my project log over.Quote:

No idea when I'm going to get around to work on Oracle, I'm hoping to get it ready for paint before I go back to school, so I have lots and lots to do.

first you get shot... then you get sick... then you get sick again.
This case is cursed!
This may be true. And now my webhost seems to have died!Quote:
