L629B is now really a POS. When i was tourching the IHS, i heard the normal pop, but the cpu didn't drop. Hmm... heat it again... no pop... Lifted the razor blades and greeted with liquid solder sitting on the core for about 5- second. Apprently the razor blades heated the silicone and stuck to it, and thast what was holding the cpu up. So i heated the core, and now it wont even do 3.2ghz.... oh that sucks.
I have a good L629B 6600 but for some strange reason I have serious issues with heat. At high 1.5V+ vcore temps read 85C+ at load and cpu starts throttling even though everything is disabled in bios. For instance, it calculates 1M in 30secs lol. Other cpus that I've tested don't have this problem. I suspect either realy bad IHS (it doesnt look bad though) or poor IHS contact with the core. If everything fails I might have to get IHS off somehow.

Some tips on that. use 4 razor blades, like crazyxp shows in the removed IHS thread. It'll pop, and the cpu should drop. If it doesn't drop, lift the blades. Dont make the sme mistake as i did. this cpu has obviously taken a hurting and can only do 2.8ghz now.
OK, so maybe I have lower frequency (this is on AIR, remember), but the time is pretty awesome I think. I maxed every voltage (NB, SB, VCore, VDimm etc) and this is the result :D
nice time. But i bumped up my ram voltage and tightened it up, now that i'm pretty sure i have D9's. This is what happened

This was actually @ 4138. I had just clicked to 4145 to try that, and did print screen after.
wow nice now that chip is flying!!! are you using maxmem tweak? might throw you over the top.
i did it!!!. Left my windows open over night to 8c air and the computer off. Name in, boted to 4080, clockgened to 4136 and got going fast before the mobo heated up.
I closed any program that might slow me down, but left explorer running, becuase there was very little difference. Also tried booting is diagnostic mode, but that lost about .2s.

this one i had cpu-z open while running pi, so it slowed it just a bit.
I tried 4172 with cpu-z closed, and got 14.922, but then when i tried to open cpu-z it crashed. but thats ok, i BROKE 13s!!!
Good competition is always reccomended :).

Congrats on breaking 13 :D The best I got w/ my 6400 is 13.375.
I want to break 12.. but its going to be hard if not impossible. I was doing 13's at 4.4Ghz :(
My Ram can do Cas4 @ almost 600. I need to see if I can tighten the timing on it.

It looks like I'll have a hard time breaking 13s... 14,078s, only ~0,5% higher then target...
Max FSB 1M-stable for me is 513,3. I have just benched over 2 hours in Win2003, run once XP (far from optimized, because it has over 40 days and I'm using it 24/7) and get better time. So I think that XP is better than non-fully-tweaked 2003, for 1M of course.
Hmm... not used any tweaks (only kill processes (not services), realtime-priority and affinity to CPU1, but this is obvious).
Any suggestions? Fresh install, kill some services, copy-waza, MaxMem? Will this do the trick? I hope so and will try, now I'm a little frustrated that I'm so close and not able to achieve 13s ;).
