WOW! Killer mod. This is exactly why I haveen't picked up a 7950GX2 - noise and no OCs.
Not a problem anymore! WOOT!
Except now, I think I'll just get G80.
Looks very clean and nice
Anyone know if the VF700's will work??? I hope so i just ordered two lol
XPSentity: "I had to half screw the double standoffs to create more space for the thumbscrews to clear the fan on the upper card" what you mean by that ?
Zalman's screws were too long on the backside of the upper card so they touched the next Zalman's fins ? or what ? can u please make some more photoz :)
ps. just ordered that "spacer"...
The thumbscrews will touch the inner fan with everything 'tight'. Also, make sure the orientation on the VF900's is facing "up", towards the outside of the case, otherwise you won't be able to drop the card in any slots, they will hit caps and whatnot.
If you take the standoffs and create a gap in the middle where they attach to each other by unscrewing them just a bit, you'll get enough clearance. It's DAMN close though.
No problems so far, still running exceptionally well.
any idea if mc14s would fit under the vf900? please let me know what alternative you use to the zalmans.
also what part of the vf900 is the up?
Not sure about the ramsinks, but it *looks* like they'll fit.
You'll see how the Vf900 needs to be. It will fit any direction, but it becomes obvious which way it needs to be.

why not just cut off half of these thumbscrews ? I did it once had the VF900 in P5B Deluxe - the lower one were right over the couple of capacitors...
Yeah I thought about that, but I don't have the tools to cut them.

Grab a copy of Everest home ( must be over version 3) to read out dual cores same readings as coretemp (so fine for me) and also reads our the dual GPU monster ...
Have you tried with the stock coolers ?
I'm trying to grab a version of the swiftech here in Belgium, not to Oc it, just to keep it cooler and enhance it's longitivity ... but indeed the ram is designed to run at 1400mhz so maybe give it a try if I can get it here ...
give it a try!
ive got mine running @ 600/775 w/o a hitch, except one, and thats without the spacer of the vf's....
only hitch is in farcry eventvwr.msc shows the nv driver lowering its clocks cause it got too hot.
if anyone tries the mc14s, let me know
VF700-Cu LED's Fit... FYI :D
You know, those pics looked oddly familiar...
Well, I got meself the spacer with a couple of Vf700cu (25 bucks each was hard to deny) :p
Now all I need is to do the vmod as my card doesn't go above 580mhz.
Hehehe, who knows? :cool:Quote:

also, what vmods did you do? 1.5 or 1.55? and memory? i was figuring youd get higher clocks! also, why benchies only? lol
got spacer and one extra VF900 (had one before) - fortunately, new VF900 came with plastic thumbscrews, so it was easy to cut them :)
first head/second head temps are:
idle: 43/50, used to be 55/63
load: 55/64, was around 70/83
ps. all fans in system at lowest speed all time.
very nice drop, I might say !
put a silent fan in the end of the card(s), it should give u even better temps, atleast @ the inner one!
yuri, why did you have to cut the thumb screws? also, did you use zalmans mem sinks? increase your mem oc at all?
eXa: i have one 120mm fan nearby - it runs @ ~300 rpm (trying to keep system very, very quiet) no real need to lower temp even more, I guess :)
WoL-Shiver: I cut the thumbscrews just because of same problems as OP had: they are too big to fit after installing spacer - "inner" zalman fins are right against these screws. cutting about half of the screw solved the problem for one pair, and second pair was little-bit adjusted as well too - cutted ~20% of "side" part of them.
memsinks: yes, I use Zalmans, did not tried to o/c card after spacer install, will try but wonnt go extreme (doh!), 'cause I dont have warranty for this card :)
ps. w/out spacer/sinks I did about 560/700 stable (gpu/mem), but it was HOT. btw, memory is 1.4ns on this one, I thought they have to be 1.1, but not sure... anyways, it's more than enough to have GX2 even at stock clocks until second wave of G80 come ...
still dont get it. the op only said something about the card standoffs...
oh wait i think i get it. instead of not completely using the screw standoffs, you cut the thumb screws? i see.
care to post any pics if you can, waiting for my spacer.
also, did you find your mem chip specs by reading them off them, or on the net?
thanks guys. making my first thread stand here at XS alot easier for me
regards, WoL
bump for a hand :)
