Lamborghini is Audi nowaydays. But also Lamborghini and Porsche did make tractors :D
Way to hijack a thread
Anyone know what the price on the fake is. I dont care what it is as long as its priced accordingly.
In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the price of the DDC's. I have had about 7 or 8 now and they are worth their weight in gold IMO. The Ultra's (or whatever you guys like to call them ;)) are just superb and I wouldn't contemplate getting a fake for a second. Not one has stuttered or failed to fire up ever, for me they just do the job and do it very, very well :).
Thanks for the heads up. Dont understand German but it is a lot easier to spot once seeing the pictures.
On a side note:
Hoax that Extreme logo looks TREMENDOUS!!! That is what the logo should be!!!
You mean Fiero's made by Ponitac? LOLQuote:

i think apple even had that oppinion about the orig ddc. afaik they used 2 of em for the water cooled g5'sQuote:

Interesting, obviously the MTBF would be much lower than the DDC. The DDC has a single small ceramic bearing the impeller rides on the works really well for long maintenance free service life.
The fake is a shaft/impeller setup.

I never understood fakes...for just a little more effort you could try to improve on a good design under your own name and be applauded for your efforts....sad:down:
watch pretty soon theres going to be fake ek blocks running around because of such scarcity they are in the US.
But seriously, just looking at the quality of both you can tell the fake is not worth it. That shaft looks like it cant take a lot of stress.
D5 also carry a MTBF 50,000 hours as well. Which is why liang is awesome.
Next there will be fake Thermochills... :shakes:
JK
Thanks for the heads up
Will Petra's top work on the fake one?:D
Nice thread resurrection. :shakes:
There already are, they just haven't gone past China's border, at least, that's what I think I recall Marci saying.
I don't think so, it looks just a touch bigger. Even if it did, why would you want one?
Too bad they use Laing's name.. might be interesting to try them.
No it wouldn't. They're very sub par performance.

Other differences ...
The performance of copies are also being left behind because they only 2.5 mH2O and 330 L / h maximum, where the real DDC displays mH2O and 3.9 ~ 380 L / h in the version 1 and 6.1 mH2O and ~ 500 L / h in the version 1 +. Copies are also powered by a small 3 pins (not tachometry), and not by a Molex as on the original.
However they may scale with voltage well.
If I buy a laing I want a laing not some knock-off
Do you mean as in 12+ volts using a Meanwell?...if so, just use an Iwaki. Known reliability/performance there.
I'm sorry, I just don't see any reasonable reason to waste any money on these fakes. You add more power so they perform better, they dump more heat into the water= lose/lose situation. Suspect construction from the very look of them=losing situation.
With the 3.1/3.2 versions out now, there's no reason to look elsewhere for a small, powerful, reliable pump.
Why limit yourself to a meanwell?
The reasoning would be the possibility of having Iwaki-like performance at cheaper cost. Construction looks quite similar to a few other pumps i've seen, same impeller style anyways. I dont see why they should be more failure prone just because of a slightly different design (they still use magnetic drive).
Now if you opened it up to see the drive stators and such you might be able to make the argument, but not on just seeing the impeller.
Like to hear from someone successfully claim on it.
Hydor pumps also have a 50k MTBF FYI
I would buy the "fake" in a heart beat if it outperformed the original also I couldnt give a flying toss about brand names when a company starts paying me to advertise i use their product then maybe i will change my mind. my e-penis doesnt need lengthening by showing I use brand name components in my forum sigs.
Not even sure if these are still circulating around a year later, but if the pump did perform better then they shouldn't have to sell it as a Laing, but give it its own name and let the better performance sell itself. To me selling something as something it's not only speaks badly for the company at fault.
