wth.. inductors are pretty near impossible to blow. although PC power and cooling seemed to have an inductor problem a while back.
the glue probably caught fire.
Alright. I'll try to explain as clear as possible.
I was at
1.3v LDT
1.7v chipset
305fsb @ 1.55v*104% (=1.612) vcore
To add more cooling I hooked up a 120mm delta fan (Model: WFB1212HHE dc 12v 1.00A -F00 ) to the molex before my hard drive.
I have an OCZ 520W power supply, and that molex line was only connected to hd and that fan.
I powered up and went to the bios, changed the settings to:
310fsb @ 1.55*113% (=1.7515v), saved and exited.
Now I'm uncertain if it turned off by itself here or not.
But after it was off, I tried to turn it on:
one red light came out for about 0.4 seconds and it turned off, I tried once or twice more, but it wouldn't budge, it was like trying to start a car when a battery is too low.
Then I switched cmos jumper, took out battery and tuend off psu.
After a few seconds, I turned on psu and attempted to turn on the pc again.
Same thing, but I heard something hiss, then on second try, I saw sparks/fire fly out of the are where I took the picture posted above.
I instinctively unplugged the power cable out of the psu.
I thought it was a capacitor because it was the same smell I once sense when a capacitor blew on a video card.

I did some tests so... Well my case door blew off my case just a few hours ago from setting the vcore to 2.1v. =P That may have explained what really happened. XP J/K
your not suposed to take the battery out of the lanparty boards it mucks with their voltage settings read a few threads on this at dfi-street thats most likely what happened aparently if u remove the battery it can send about 2.0v to ur chip and possibly smoke it.Quote:

I really doubt it was the Vcore, heres waht happend to me this week.
Accidentaly put Vcore @ 1.525*136% instead of putting it on 1.525*auto. My opty took alost 2.1v for about 30 seconds until the thermal protection (60C) shut the machine off.

The proper Clear CMOS for the Expert/Venus board always included the following warning.
When performing a Clear CMOS, always replace the battery before moving the jumper back to the "normal" position.
This allows any current surge from the battery replacement to be shunted to ground when the battery makes contact.
Check the voltage on your CMOS battery, if there was indeed surge current which smoked the inductor, your battery should have discharged completely or even blown up by itself.
I doubt his case has anything to do with the battery.
AS I said, the smell and autturnoffs started occurring before the battery switch
and the battery is still good.

Heh...you'd think they'd pay attention to something like that.
Inductors don't burn due to electrical stress because there's actually nothing that could burn for an inductor is just a coil of (thick) copper wire wrapped around a ferrite core.
