Someone with more than one C2D could find volts that kill CPU instantly; If you have retail, then you don't have to worry about volts - you can always RMA it - so if you got very bad overclocker, maybe even worth going for it :P

Retail/OEM makes no difference.... If you RMA because you smoked it on an OC, you're a sleezebag anyway.... :(Quote:

They won't be able to tell if I toasted the CPU by overvolting right?
Nope, but your concience will haunt you till you get the RMA replacement hehehe.
Yep its dishonest as all hell . and possiable cause prices to remain higher because of your dishonesty. We all pay. I can't believe the number of people who break their GPU'S threw O/C than RMA them . I think there should be a way for hardware makers to check if their products have been O/C or O/V .
To be clear - i never did anything like that, I just say it's possible. I just hate any RMA:/ Last time my Asus mobo failed in the summer for no reason, everything was set to stock, and I had to wait 2 weeks for repair. But some sellers are not honest too - I had some cases where someone tried to return broken hardware, but they said unless it's totally broken it's ok. Hard to return partly-broken hardware where I live. When my old FX 5200 was somehow damaged and it was causing artifacts - reseller said - what you expect of such cheap card - it's ok like that. But I insisted on returning it, ended with paying for other card cause I waited 1 month for RMA...
I've overclocked the crap out of plenty of stuff and RMA'd it. Who cares!? Large heartless corporations deserved to get reamed just as much as they have reamed consumers in the past.
I probably won't do the same with my conroe, although the idea that someone would burn one up and send it in for a new one is not as bad as you people think.
