IHS ...integrated heat shield? New to all of this stuff ...:(
Defiently. I think in good light of things.. I can turn this into a project :DQuote:

It may still be possible then to detach new AMD's and Conroes.
The key to safely removing the IHS is a good shrink tube heat gun. The air that comes out of it will melt solder on contact. Use that to heat the IHS and it should melt the solder for easy and safe IHS removal.
Well had i known that the processor was soldered.. I would have.. well first not removed the IHS, second, If i had even thought about removing it,, i would have heated it..
no, but it is capacitive :DQuote:

wow, an FX62 down the drain. That hurts! Enjoy your incoming Conroe!

Anyways. Conroe is coming next week, and in the meantime, Ill twidle around, grab my Fluke temp meter, and get my blow torch / soldering gun out.
Ill post pictutures and stuff when i get results!!
No they don't. There is no reason to remove the IHS to check a processor if it is defectiveQuote:

Maybe you could try to determine what is the temperature needed to detach the die soldered on the IHS.Quote:

DO IT OMG DO IT. I'd laugh so hard.

Lol.

Defiently thinking about it
I wouldn't suggest going conroe just yet, especially if you want to use quad sli. I beleive the only board that works it he asus p5n32-sli, but it doesn;t overclock for crap. i hear 350 fsb is the limit, unless, you plan on going x6800, and you'd have unlocked multipliers. Then that might not be so bad. But just a heads up since you have quad sli.
You could probably get an x2 5000+ as those are frequently overclocking past 3.0ghz.
omg white glue solves that believe that thing fixes everything
ouch that will be hard to sleep off tonight..:(
Please, do NOT RMA that CPU :nono: Yeah it stinks that broke and that is a ton of money down the drain :( however, you did break it, so you should take responsibility for it and swallow the cost (however hard that must be, ouch). Gluing it back and sending it back as if it is defective is just plain dishonest and can potentially drive prices up if enough people do it.
Isn't anyone honest enough these days to just swallow their own mistakes instead of trying to make others pay for it? :stick:
lol Elmers to the rescue! :woot:Quote:

you broke it you pay for it, break it then send it back for an RMA then you will grow a third nipple and have bad karma for a long long time :D
be a men and eat the cost, your mistake not AMD's or tigerdirect's.
ouch was it really worth risking a £600 chip for a little temperature loss  , what a waste, sorry for your loss i guess :stick:
OkOk..
I have conroe coming, so I have no real need for the FX-62, other than to just frame it and put it in my Entertainment room.
I think ill drill a hole in it, and attach it to my fan on my ceiling..
Light on.. LIght off..
Edi: Also. Why wont Quad SLI work in the Asus P5WDG2 WS Professional ?
Thats the mobo i have coming.
