First RD/RS600 ATI chipsets to come out soon.

You forget that DFI's main business is enthusiast boards, All the way back to the nForce2 Ultra Lanparty. DFI mainstream boards were never a real success, Asus had that market cornered.

assuming rd600 was being a factor in amd acquisition of ati that would bring attention to the technology used in the chipset.

rumours of 3x16lanes in the pci-e is sorta boundry jumping in terms of performance in comparison to anything that intel has put out so far.

even if not, and the technology is capable of this, wouldn't a fully funcioning driver release be mandatory on ATI's part?

i'm assuming here that once a fully functional firmware is released a third party programmer could perhaps custom fabricate a new one.

well if you want to be accurate DFI's main business is OEM business, they've only been in the enthusiast business since NF2 and theyve been around much longer then that. But i agree, DFI doesnt sell mid range boards usually, either OEM or enthusiast.

Yeah that's what I thought, that DFI has gotten 'big' (still nothing compared to ASUS) with it's OEM businuss. So I thought that if they were doing good in the enthousiast market, it won't rise thier stock prices that much.

i dont think theyll gouge, DFI has a business model, and it isnt rip customers a new one...

If they can make this board for cheap and be the only supplier on the market then they could see huge growth...

It all depends on RD600, will it be the winner we all hope for, or just another decent board to be forgetten?

It's the southbridge and I have never seen a bare SB, because there usually is some sort of pastic cap on it, so it might just be an average chip for SB standards or have you seen any bare SB chips?

you are right, usually they put a shim on the SB... about right size though. probably SB600, a very good SB chip feature wise.

It is the SB600 and dosen't run hot ether. This is Dells lowest end system using RS600. There are going to be much more powerful system based on ATI chipsets at the same time the Optiplex 320 will go to sale. The onboard graphics is a X700LE with AVIVO in the north bridge. This chipset supports HDMI but the mobo maker must add the HDMI port.

i'm wondering whether rd600 goes better with allendales or conroes?

Are Dell really trying to piss off Intel or something?!

What form-factor is that ? Or Dell has their own designed mobos ?

accoring to Andre RD600 boards have sh1thouse RAM performance and he reckons that price will be the key selling feature so unless you have a better source i don't think they'll be jacking anything up any time soon

Does it have a heatsink on it? That's WAAAAAYYYYYY too hot. I'm surprised it even gets to 105c tbh....
