OCZ Platinum sticks - Has ANYBODY been successful with them?

Eeeek, bought a 2GB kit of this a few months back as they were uber cheap, but they've just been sitting in my wardrobe :( hope I don't run in to any issues on the MSI 975X PPUE I'm planning to get...

What about Prime95 dude? Afaik, Memtest isn't too good at picking out subtle memory problems. And did you try running on something like a 3:4 divider to see if they are ok running at the full 400MHz?

Not sure what your asking here, but i've spoken with 2 OCZ reps already (Ryder and Tony). Both came to the conclusion of RMAing my sticks. I did and the new sticks do the same thing. I'm tired of messing with it.

I'm want to know if its an isolated issue or if everyone with Rev1 sticks and a P5W DH is having the same issue. Try running the sticks with 4:3 divider and rated timings (4-5-4-15).

I bought the 2GB Platinum XTC rev2 kit, and i have some problems.
I'm using the Asrock 775dual-VSTA, so i can use my 6800U AGP with my Conroe.
My system isn't running that well, i have lags all the time, and is sertainly not 3d-stable.
I have my sticks running on 533mhz -4-4-4-10, and still it isn't stable(to be sure mem isnt to high for max voltage). I'm not sure if it are my OCZ sticks, or the mobo. I will order an p5b deluxe, and hope that will give me a stable system.

The a$rock uses the VIA P880 chipset :slapass:

Mine are OCZ2P8002GK rev1, tested at 940Mhz 5-5-5-15 on a P5WD2. Can't run them as high with my celeron right now, but at least I know they work fine.

Will see on my P5B once I will get my Conroe.

That's ok. How many can boot and use that divider on this board, no matter what ram they use?

DS3 w/ Platinum EL XTC (2x1gb)

No problems running 425fsb 1:1 4-5-4-15

I know personally a few people that don't have issues with other ram and P5W DH and 4:3 divider. I myself have tried 4x512 of generic corsair stuff and can run 4:3 4-5-4-15 with it.

You can run 4-5-4-15 with the 4:3 divider at 400+ FSB with those 4 sticks?

Can you run 266 FSB (stock) at 4:3 with the OCZ Ram Wes?

Yes. That is what prompted Tony to suggest an RMA. That is how I know it is the ram having problems not the board. With the OCZ Ram the system refuses to boot at 4-5-4-15 4:3 at 400*9 (which is 300mhz mem speed). I have not tried running 4:3 at 266FSB with 4-5-4-15 timings.

Ok, next question, why do you need the 4:3 divider?

4 GHz would be 444 FSB, if you run 1:1 that is only DDR888 which the ram should do with a little looser timings maybe.

I don't *need* it, but the fact of the matter is, the ram should be able to run 4-5-4-15 at 300mhz no problem. That is where my problem lies. (Now, i know the cpu will go faster, tested to 412*9 4:3 5-6-5-x. So i've pretty much eliminated everything here except the ram.)

The board doesn't like 1:1 and i've learned to live with that, 390FSB is the max i've tested with the OCZ ram at 1:1 4-5-4-15. (which is still below the rams rated speed)

I've got the 2gig plat kit rev1's but after hearing all the problems its had with several boards i tried to buy my way out of it by getting the bad axe (on its way). it was $100 more for a motherboard i didnt want to spend but this system was for a friend and i wanted stability out of the box. didnt want to hassle with an rma. hopefully i can still get 2.4ghz out of an E6300, gonna be more of a challenge though.

If the ram won't do specified speeds, no matter what divider used, then off course something is wrong, but getting 4 sticks that stops at the exact same speeds is close to impossible. Send either myself or Ryder an email and we will sort you out. I will make sure you get an advanced shipment sent out today if you want.

Let me ask you a question then....is it confirmed that R1s are giving problems with the boards?I can't really afford to buy them, then have all these issues....

And seeing as R2s cost almost $100 more....seems like a bad situation....

Are you guys really RMAing R1s that don't work with the boards for R2s?

I'm not sure where the new set stops at. The only thing I tested was 400*9 4:3 4-5-4-15 (would be 300mhz on the mem) and the system refused to boot. Exact same problem as the first set i had.

My bad. I read some bad info somewhere and didn't check it out. All I really know about Rev. 1 ELP is that an OCZ rep told me it used the same Elpida chips as Gold but was higher binned. Rev. 2 uses different chips.

Which chips do the Rev2 use?

I use GK's and if I overclock at all I can't manually set the timings, no bios post ever. However if I run stock at 266 on my p5w dh I can run stock timings grouped with my e6600. Right now i'm running at 370x9 and the timings are set to auto because once again if I were to touch them I would get a no boot. They are at a disgusting 5-6-6-18 according to cpu-z. I'm running at 740 mhz, and I error everytime on memtest, the only time I don't is if I leave it completely stock. However it is orthos dual prime stable.

you may not have ram issues here, you may have strap issues that are causing the none boot etc. I know I keep harping on about this but untill we know what strap these boards are setting we have to be sure we have tested everything.

4:3 may be off the 800 strap, so with the fsb on the CPU at 400 you have a massive overclock on the NB which is causing you issues.

Wes, I need you to just load setup defaults, make sure the ram is on 800 mode if thats what its rated for and see if it runs ok...if it does, overclock the ram till you hit its max and let me know.

Then drop the ram back to 667 mode and do the same, in theory if the CPU is good the ram should hit the same speed.

Now if you then drop to 533 or 400 mode and the CPU now clcoks like a dog the board has changed strap and this is the cause of the issues.

I know its a lot to do but this may prove the ram is just fine and you have in reality just a board overclocking issue.

I know you guys are trying to help, but I've tried everything humanly possible.

With the 502 BIOS, the ram timings are extremely high (again, x-7-7-23 and LOCKED at that timing) but I can overclock some. Mainly, I can get to 8x375FSB (1:1) and be Prime95 stable for 19 hours. That seems to be the limit, though.

When I switch to a BIOS WITHOUT broken timings, I can't do 375, let alone 350, 320, 300...etc. I don't know if the ram is bad, but I do think there is a huge incompatibility with the OCZ sticks and this Asus board.

I have done all this over and over again. If I could remember all the stuff off the top of my head i'd tell you right now.

However, unless someone can explain to me how I am able to run 4x512mb sticks at 400*9 4-5-4-15 4:3 and not the OCZ sticks, I'm 99% positive it is the ram. In theory, the only thing that changes is the amount of sticks and chips in the sticks. Everything else stays the same.

I understand what you are saying about putting the stress on the chipset, but wouldn't 4x512mb put MORE stress on the chipset than 2x1gb? I'm no expert, but in the 5+ years i've been doing this, thats always the way its worked.

I don't know but IIRC, I read someone here post that they are using Micron D9xxx. Given the higher cost of rev. 2, that seems plausible enough.

4x512 is less load as they will be single sided...if you had 4x512 that were all double sided then the load would be higher.

I really do need you to test how i pointed out here, I just need to know how your ram does in 667 and 800 mode. If you hit DDR1000 like I am on the DS3 you will start to think like I am ;)

I also see reading various posts some users are hitting very high FSB's in 533 mode and similar users are having real issues with similar ram...you have to admit these new boards are plagued with issues.

Please test again if you can and let me know how your ram does.
