That is nothing new, most of the sensors on the mobo are useless anyways, its not unusual to be off by 10C or more and the voltage sensors are just as bad.

Really, your CPU isn't overheating, just running kinda hot (if that temp. is in fact correct...) so unless its at stock and behaving like that and you want to OC I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you're talking like 100C+ (which is impossible since the over temp. protection will kick in long before that) high temp. won't damage the CPU, at worst you'll get some instability/BSODs + occasional system shutdowns til' you get better cooling. I really doubt its running at that temp. unless you totally screwed up mounting the HSF though or the fan died or there is no case ventilation at all.

If you really want a accurate temp reading I'd buy something like this here:

there are better ones out there of course with a wider range of temp. sensing which is really nice if you ever go phase change but the price starts to go up quickly too.

Ok well it started to throttled down at 430 fsb . gonna pick up a another heatsink later this week.

yes its a retail E6400 OEM .


with this gskill LA PC 4200 i can only run 3100mhz - 388 FSB 1:1 ( gigabyte dont have RAM dividers under 1:1 :( )

Its a good rough and quick check. Lightly touch the bottom of the heatsink (dont apply any pressure at all)

Your body temp is 38c, so if it feels normal then its 38c or so. If it feels cold then its 20c or so. If its hot then 45c or so. Starts to burn finger 60c Burns finger right away 70c

Lick your finger and it goes tshh when you touch it and thats about 80c or more :eek: (switch it off right away)

Obviously you could go get a simple thermometer, just be carefull not to short anything out.

It should throttle about 65c I think, rmclock or throttlewatch can show this

I ordered 3 Yate Loon 120mm Fans that are 47cfm. Would that help alot?

Yeah, I'm getting high temps now for some reason. When I was running out of the case for testing (6300/DS3/Scythe Ninja) I was getting like 29-35 or something on idle. Now when in the case I idle at 54-55!!!:mad:

What kinda case you using?

It's an old Raidmax 868scorpio or something like that. I'm running open case with the side panel off and temps dropped a bit to 45C idle. I'm not sure what caused the spike because it was like 35-40 idle.

Well I currently don't have exhaust fans because the ninja is taking up too much room and the rear mount for my exhaust fans don't fit. I'll probably have to pick up some tie straps or something and tie the fans to the back.

So the only cooling I got is 2 fans in the bottom front blowing air in, the ninja and psu for exhaust, and a side panel fan blowing air in.

whats your max temps? im getting 60c load isnt that bad?

Well outside of the case it maxes out around 55 so I think if I ran in case it would probably be around 65. I don't know if that's normal, but that feels hot for me.

Damn we really got to get a database going on people's temps/FSB/voltages/mods etc.

go get yourself a REAL heatsink.

i keep seeing you guys, not you inparticular, crying about temps being to high and in general,, people are using the stock heatsink or this zalman.

ive had a few of the zalman heatsinks, not this particular one but they all sucks balls.

that heatsink is crap go get a real one.
anything less than the quality and performance of an XP90 or 90c is futile.

spend the money its worth every penny
i believe newegg has the big typhoon on sale right now for $45 go buy one.

I'm on a Scythe Ninja. I'm wondering if it's just the fact that I currently have no exhaust fans. It seems like people that are running 450FSB+ are doing 40-45 idle and 50-55load, and I'm not that far off with an open case.

The weird thing is that from stock speeds to about 450FSB my temps were 30idle and around 40-45load. 450+ and I get a 10 degree spike.

I'm getting 50-idle for 495x7,
what's your MAX temp when you do prime for 1 hour+? mine is 70 (won't raise or even even drop, but yeah sometimes drop for 68-69 for just 1-2 sec :lol:)

my bios reads 80C........... DO NOT TRUST :banana::banana::banana::banana: SENSORS they have

even CoreTemp on this motherboard is showing strange results...............this is my second DS3....

i wouldn't worry about it as long as it's stable at whatever OC you are at

Oh ok. Hopefully my yateloon fans lower the temps

now for me dinos. my bios, speedfan and other tools are pretty much spot on.

thats wierd yours is reading so high....

but you also gotta remember the bios heats up the cpu really fast cuz its not throttling the cpu, its running wide open. so it does heat up pretty fast.

to the other guy.

if your not using an exhaust fan. add one see what it does. but the ninja should be enough to cool it as long as you have the case lid open. if the case is all sealed up then yes 50c idle is highly possible as the heat doesnt have anywhere to go.

id swap over to my XP-90 and share my results but i'd have to take my water apart and pull the board to install the 775 adapter and i'd rather not lol.

your temps are definately bad.

how much and what type of thermal paste are you using ? next time you have the heatsink off. take a picture. then take a picture after you clean the paste off and reapply new stuff.

it doesnt take much guys just a small dab in the center.
dont spread the paste around or anything just put a dab in the center, and mount your heatsink and push straight down on the ehatsink so it can evenly spread the goo on its own.

how tight is your heatsink.? have you also checked the cpu to make sure its not concave or convex ?

try using "core temp" to read the temp.

well think what you will but i guarentee you, you throw an XP-90 on there and youll see what a GOOD heatsink can do.

sh|t i'd send you mine just to put you in your place grasshopper if i wasnt using it on the g/f system.

that heatsink isnt all that great.

the ninja is better and the XP and Ultra series is better yet.
with the all around long time winner being the Big Typhoon.

zalman isnt known for making spectacular heatsinks.

not to mention the fact that these chips start heating up really fast once you hit 1.35v or higher. they are a low heat cpu only at stock voltages.

finally I open the ninja found out that the clips for mounting isn't fasten as it supposed to be, and I tighten it up and re-apply the AS5 yay!!!
495 x 7 now idle at 41-43, using prime and leave it for 2 hours+, 69 is the MAX I hit.

to those who using Ninja+, please check your HSF again, make sure it properly mounted.

my first DS3

23-28C in bios

23C windows idle
max 43C or so load


second DS3 >> completely :banana::banana::banana::banana:ed temps sensor 80C in bios
30-40C idle
even up to 70C load it reads

Coretemp is even reporting differently in the two motherboards so you're right it must be relying on some sort of calculation invoving a variable that is reporting inaccurate reading
as even core temp is reporting high 50C load :nono:

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the bios reported temperatures. I had a major problem with my water cooling setup with my CPU running hot and I couldn't figure out what the problem was... at 400x8 it would get up to 57 degrees within 30 seconds on load.

I applied a very thin layer of arctic silver to the heatsink, placed it on the chip, mounted the heatsink, took it back off, to see that the IHS on the chip was badly in need of lapping. Only about 15% of the heatsink on my waterblock was making contact with the chip, and those areas were around the corners, not in the middle at all!

I just finished lapping the IHS on my E6400 and what a difference... load drops from 57 or more down to 43 or so during dual priming. (fresh AS5 application, 24 degree room temp) I suspect plenty of these chips will have issues with uneven surfaces... you won't notice it with the stock heatsink because it's smaller and circular shaped and in most cases won't reach the sides of the IHS, which are the part that is raised up. So this is mostly an issue if you have a large flat copper block that covers the entire IHS from end to end.
