Looks good to me if the 1/6th divider is there or maybe even a 1/7th this chipset will be sweet. I could care less about pci lock. All my periphrals run at 40 fsb. The only concern I have is agp speed and if a 9800pro would run on the agp bus. Hopefully, they have a fix for this in this new board. The main reason I was excited about pci/agp lock on the nforce2 was fsb speeds in the 266fsb range but so far the chipset has proven itself unreliable at high fsb's even with a pci lock and requires heavy modding to get to 230fsb or above. If the kt400a can run at over 233fsb reliably, locked pci or not I will get one. Even with just a 1/6th divider, I should be able to get it to 240fsb easily and I know the via chipset just needs the divisors to do it. It doesn't get near as hot as nforce 2 at high fsb speeds (200fsb plus). So bring it on Via. I'm waiting for one last socket A board.
I wouldn't count on this. As it is now, there is already serious doubt as to whether the KT400a will even have proper 400mhz FSB support.Quote:

Sounds like typical VIA to me. Given these guys at Sudhian still have good connections within VIA, I'd put credence in what they have to say.
well, at first before the "NV30" we were preaching the word about how great it was going to be, now we are putting down the KT400a, who knows what might happen..
then again, i think ill be happy with my nforce2 board (can you tell im very anxious to get it?)
I'm not putting down the KT400a per se. I'm sure it'll be a good chipset. I'm just doubtful that it will be an NF2 killer.
I think a lot of people here could care less what board they have as long as it performs. I'm sure OPP and many other, myself included, would drop the nf2 with the quickness if the kt400a could own it. Unfortunately that doesn't look like it will happen. It would be nice to see kt400a be slightly faster so that we can have a nForce3 or something along the lines.... Its still a new chipset so I don't see a successor in the near futer. if the kt400a beats the nf2 id switch to the kt400a but....man id feal bad for nvidia wooped by ati (twice the way things look now) and then another woopin by via :( pore nvidia. crazy for nvidia to be looked at as a kinda underdog. shick happens i guess:)

about the kt400a, this is really dissapointing from VIA, I don't think they should bother releasing it, On the bechies I saw 2 Kt400 boards not an regular or a a revision. I hope they focus on an a$$ kicking K8 chipset like NVDA should too :D
the diagram on that link shows that it supports up to 8x USB 2.0 devices, who honestly is using that many usb devices?Quote:

I doubt nVIDIA will just sit by the wayside and let VIA share the performance crown. Weve seen, what, 3 driverpacks from nVIDIA?
Who knows how much performance is left, and if they were holding back for the KT400A.
The only remotely interesting feature on the VIA board is the SATA-SB link that doesn't run through the PCI bus, IMO.
And what are the chances that chipset can OC like the nForce2?
Strange, and maybe I'm just lucky, but I have never had a problem with VIA chipsets. Some may not have kicked ass on previous chips, but they were never problematic for me (even the SoundBlaster issue never arose). I am still using VIA and was considering an nForce2 board, but I may choose VIA again as it will be a couple of months before I buy a new mobo anyway. There are plenty of problems with nForce2 boards out there (the BIOS one bugs me the most) so we cannot say that it is the greatest thing since sliced bread (not that sliced bread is all that :P). I have been VERY happy with my kt333 boards...Epox 8k3a+ and Abit kd7-e...So I will never deny VIA the opportunity to prove itself to me. Now if ALi said they had something new in the works...I may not give it a second thought (worst nightmares I ever had).
I don't think the NF2 requires heavy modding to do 230 fsb, some do it out of the box, granted not ALOT do but.........
There are plenty that hit around 230 with very little modding actually.
Now there is rumours of a KT600 chipset from VIA that´s supposed to support up to 400FSB and come out next month!?

Actually, I've always had pretty good luck with VIA chipsets as far as stability, etc. And my IWill KK-266 was pretty much an @ss-kicker in its day as far as performance goes. If VIA put out a chipset that performed better, I'd buy it. The problem is that if it's only marginally better, then it isn't worth it to upgrade.
Guess we'll see.
