thx denny... i'm just about to buy a DQ6... :D
read through ur thread... I gave up gigabyte atm.
but asus gonna hurry up update p5w's bios.
fsb>350 cannot choose ddr1xxx that's really sux :(

Gigabyte board looks like it has lots of problems. Even it there will be bios fix it will prbably not fix everything and knowing gigabyte, gigabyte will try make board running stable rather than overclock better. Gigabyte's DS3 is unkown becasue the only high overclocking results with it are on 2mb cpu. As goes for asus I don't care if it can not run memory at higher speed than 1000, pricy ram.
Denny,
For the gigabyte
try to stay clear of raising FSB voltages and if only minimally - in most cases and mobos it actually only hurts. ( same is true for most 975X )
Hit F1+CTRL for advanced options on the Gigabyte for memory in bios.
Boot @ 440 no problem for me so far - after raising MCH voltage. WIth auto MCH 408mhz FSB just like you. Can't tell what the max FSB is yet due to CPU not FSB ....
Would be awesome to see comparison with 1:1 in all settings between the boards. AFAIK 3D performance is better on 965
yeah i did use F1+ ctrl but it just gay if i add too much v-mch thereQuote:

3D is better on 965?
can't even do 7950 man.....
DQ6 to me is just P.O.S..... it is the 1st mobo i have and can't adjust all the bios option all at once.... it is pain in the a$$ ..
so p5w dh is the board to get even if you dont factor in the crossfire support(although to me thats a huge plus)
why does the gigabyte board have to pci-e slots but not support crossfire and a few other boards aswell

I did + 0.6V MCh for 440 FSB FSB termination +0.01V
Not sure about memory timings yet either - maybe there is a new bios somewhere...would be nice
Now thats a great breakdown! Cmon RD600! Its looking maybe the Nvidia 590 may become an option over the 965
if MCH + 0.5V I need FSB overvoltage= Normal
7950GX2 switches PCI-E to 8X ( checked with other card - goes normal to 16X )
Droop is very good so far on Cedar Mill 661 ( idle = 1.264 100% load = 1.648 )
965 is not support 7950 correctly.... just like you said, one 1/2 the card working lolQuote:

and for sure only 1/2 the 7950 is working. needs nvidia or giga's new driver/ bios support! 7950GX2 has new name so call 3975GX1 XD
Wow, a one minute difference in 32M between Asus and Gigabyte boards at same speed and ratio. Very weird. I'm wondering if the Gigabyte board is really running 1:1.
i'll do the same test tomorow when i receive my p5w dh
asus vs intel
nice work guess
Have you tried that Spirit II chipset cooler on NB (or whatever it's called) that Coolaler uses? Claims it works small miracles for FSB.Quote:

Does the 965P-DQ6 support a retail (B2 stepping) Conroe out of the box?, does F2 bios come with retail boards?
It's interesting your PCB revision for the DQ6 is 1.00, whereas the Gigabyte website lists PCB 1.01?
Personally at this stage i don't think numbers mean much, the bios for the DQ6 is only F2 and will mature over the couple of months.Quote:

i don't think bios update can improve about 1 min 32M time....
So it's related to the 965 chipset as opposed the 975?...perhaps the C-2 stepping of the 965 will help.
simply the question of these weeks
965 vs. 975
and there is no coherency ... nowhere
sometimes you see interesting numbers (more than 15 % better) with the 965 ( see ABIT 9pro test @ anand) in real world applications ...
sometimes the 965 gets smashed totally by the 975.
so these results are really interesting for a lot of people who don`t want to be the first settlers who get the first arrows
but sadly there is no consistency in most of these tests
what we urgently need are tests with comparable !!!! conditions .. in the forecoming weeks
same cpu ..same ram...same timings ..same apps.. and bios out of the box ....
975 vs 965 is hard.Quote:

Better video, or better overclock support. lol
it is like the older intel 865 chipset versus the 875 chipset...asus made the 865 with so called inferior 875 chipsets...bios trickery and flashing the boot block with another board bios got the asus 865 board to be very close to what the 875 was out of the box!
probably intel learned from that experience...
it comes down what you really want from a board...if you are a hard overclocker, want SLI and want the max out of your cpu, stay with a 975 board
cpuz detect wrong cl timing, really cl is 5.Quote:
