I don't think you need any Mosfet Cooling. If you're on water or p/c you might want to add a fan blowing on the FETs. That should be sufficient.
I believe the part of the stock northbridge heatpipe cooler sticking on the FETs is not supposed to cool the FETs. It is just that part that cools the liquid in the heatpipe down. So it is just "more surface" for the northbridge cooler rather than a MosFET cooler. The other half of the FETs doesn't have a heatsink anyway.

Sound logical. Anyway, extra cooling never hurt.

Anyone know if a thermalright HR-05 chipset cooler will fit? Looks kind of tight with the first ram slot.

According to Thermalright's website, the HR-05 is compatible with the P5WD2-E, which has almost exactly the same Northbridge placement as the P5W-DH, so it should be compatible...

Actually, I'm planning to place an order for the HR-05 as I am about to get the Lian-Li PC-201b and am worried about the inverted MB design with my soon-to-arrive P5W-DH.

I am eventually going to get a E6700 and overclock on water, so I'll probably be running a FSB in the 350-400 range with a moderate increase in voltage. Do you guys think the HR-05 cooled passively will be enough for the NB? Should I consider MOSFET heatsinks since I will be removing the entire heatpipe assembly and will have no CPU fan in the vicinity for airflow (I don't want to cut the heatpipe in case I ever need warranty service, so the ASUS heatsink and fan is out)?

Hate to go thread digging, but has anyone found out whether the board works fine in an inverted arrangement (Lian Li "V" series)? Anyone out there running it like that right now? (without a melted NB :P)

I have a quick related question... what are decent idle/max temps for the chipset on stock cooling? I'm thinking about adding the fan since I have water, but it looks noisy... I've seen as high as 50*C and I'm not even pushing it yet.

useing a heatpipe upside down isnt a good idea... the heat transfer will suffer from that

Most heatpipes have wicks these days...

It wouldnt matter what position it is in because gravity doesnt affect the liquid.

Most Heatpipe on Motherboard are cheap and don't have wicks (even some (most?) CPU cooler don't have that)

There is a thread here about that board being upside down. It was ok for stock, but as soon he overclocked, it was very unstable. Replacing the Heatpipe by a 3rd party chipset cooler solver all the problems.

So get this board if you plan to get a 3rd party chipset cooler.

There are a plethora of variables that could affect stability and/or temperature. Id believe you if that person tested the motherboard in different positions and showed his results.

if anyone replaced their nb with a 3rd party cooler please post some pics! i like to see how it looks.

my nb idles at 46C :/

I have the lian case and a P5W DH. My MCH is at 1.65 and my chipset is currently at 43'c under load. Just use a CD case cover to divert the air with the 120mm exaughst fan. Works a treat
