xp3000 anyone?

Well I've got a dead 8rda+ on my hands so no benchies with the xp3000+ tonight. :( I broke down and put the 3000+ on the 8rda/prometia last night. It started acting weird after a few minutes, like locking up in the bios and stuff. So I just shut it down and went to sleep. Booted it up after work and everything was fine, I was looping prime95 at 2450 using default voltage. Then I bumped it up to 2600/1.725v, let prime95 loop a few times, then went out to get something to eat. Came home and prime95 was locked up. No big deal, reboot... FF... lots and lots of FF. So then on a hunch I felt underneath the northbridge (I'm using h2o and an 85w tec). Lots and lots of water. I've been running this setup for a few months and checked many times for condensation on the back of the mobo, never had an issue. I really should have sealed it up anyways... Maybe it will come back from the dead if I let it sit for a few days.

I've barred myself from buying any more computer parts for a while after this last stint so I'll have to make due with one of my other boards (a7n8x,nf7-s,epox 8k5a2+)...

On the 8rda+ and nf7-s I've used 10.5x - 15x with no problems (no reason to try the others.) Only the A7N8X gives me trouble. Should be fine on your 8rda+.

yeah but you have a 3000+....i have a 2800+...i think it's the same method as 2600+ with 333fsb....but i don't know this method....and i want at least the multiplier 13..

well my 8rda+ is not dead after all, but it does suck ass with barton processors so I've reverted back to a good 'ol epox 8k5a2+.

I just started messing around with the xp3000+ in the 8k5a2+ using my prometia.... like 20 minutes ago....

... and there is plenty more where that came from! No voltage problems or anything. My only issue might be the multiplier. I'm going to try setting it to 7x and hope it gives me 15x, but I might have to pull everything apart and cut a bridge or two to be able to run 2.8ghz+ stable.

so the epox is the problem......well i could try mine in my abit at7max2 but i like the bandwith i get from the epox.hummmm there has to be something on the epox holding them back.

Yup, on the 8rda+ I could barely hit 2.6ghz with 1.75v - 1.80v vcore. Now it's rock solid at 2.8ghz using 2.0v. Bootable and totally usable at 2.9ghz 2.1v. At that speed, after a few prime95 tests the screen blanks out. The mobo I'm using now is straight out of one of my folding@home rigs so there is no extra cooling at all besides some AS3 on the NB. I'm going to try putting heatsinks on the voltage regulator and ramsinks like I did on my 8rda+.

This chip runs pretty sweet considering I only have a few hours of use on it so far. 2.9ghz stable seems really possible. Just not on an NF2 based board I'm afraid... :rolleyes:

By the way the 15x multiplier is working by setting the bios to 7x.

here's a screenie at 2.8ghz, rock solid... gonna run her overnight and all day tomorrow at this speed. The 12V output on my PSU is getting scary... I gotta turn it down a bit, maybe tomorrow.

shortcircuit is the power suppy the same one you were using on the 8rda ??.because i cannt keep the 12v side hot enough on mine.mine will run 11.88 max.this is on a molex connector.with a antec 550 true power.my epox likes to pull the 12v side down.

No it's a different PSU.

Right now I'm using a super flower 500w psu. It's a big triple-fan psu sold under a lot of different companies names. It has adjustable pot's inside.

On the 8rda+ I was using an enermax 431w initially and later on an enermax 550w. I never had problems with my 12v rail using the 8rda+. The enermax 550w psu is really sweet. Normally I use two psu's for my benching rig but with the 550w I was using one psu for the whole machine and my 12v rail was reading around 12.5v.

yes i normally run 2 power supplies to but i have one right now running the condensor fans .when you ran 2 power supplies have you tried connecting the radeonr9700 to a supply seperate from the main motherboard power suppy?
reason i ask my raddy has been modded with 2 molex connectors to help on power feed.this raised my core clock from 459mhz to 489mhz.but i was still running though one power supply.

I was using the second power supply for the radeon, 85w tec on the northbridge, fans and hard drives. That way the cpu/mobo gets it's own power supply. I've fried a couple power supplies lately and don't want to fry a nice one by overloading it.

Prime95 barfed a minute ago after looping for well over an hour. I bumped it up to 2.05v and I have my fingers crossed :)

yea prime would do that to me at the 2 1/2 hour mark most times.when i was running my xp2600 @2834 but ran rock solid everywhere else.

I think that all bartons like voltage just as much as the t-bred's do. But they consume a lot more power, which ends up exceeding the power output capabilities of today's motherboards at high voltage/high mhz. That's my theory.

My system ran prime95 overnight and all day at 2.8ghz, 2.05v (2.08v in mbm5). Now I am working on 2.85ghz. At 2.05v prime95 would crash right away. At 2.1v it made it as far as the second test. And at 2.15v it's up to the tenth test so far. :D

I don't know, the difference between the Barton 2800+ behavior re: Barton voltage behavior on my 8rda+ vs my NF7-S v1.2 seems pretty close even though the Abit has the extra 12v plug.

i do agree with you on that.it seams the mosets cant push that much power on my 8rda.i am trying to find a work around for the 8rda.but none as of yet.i have been probing the mofsets looking for one that is low in input voltage..this should lead me to the weak link.but as of now no luck.
just would nice to see if my barton is just like yours.i am seriously thinking of trying a abit board.but i dont want to untill i am sure they can handle the amps too.the new 8rga with the extra power connector might can i just dont like the nv video option

I got a Barton myself and can`t also push it over 2712 Mhz stable on a 8RDA+. I also think it´s the 8RDA+ that can`t handle higher clocks. My Prommy is also getting very high temps at evaporator on this clock. I have -23 °C on the Evapo. at full load.
On a T-Bred @ 2,9 Ghz i had just 24 °C ... so the Barton is consuming alot more power.
Well my Abit will arive tomorrow ( i hope so ) and it has a extra connector for the 12V. I will keep you informed if higher clocks are possible or not.

Wow, those are some high temps!! The highest I have ever seen my prometia go is -25c. It's been running folding@home for approx 24hrs now at 2866mhz, 2.22v vcore, and the temp is -26c.

I'm interested to hear how the barton runs in an nf7-s v1.2. I had a v1.1 but killed it rather quickly. Which barton chip do you have? Stepping?

I'm working on a volt-mod for one of my epox 8k5a2+ boards so that I can go above 2.2v :) It has the same IRU3055 voltage regulator as the 8rda+. I already cut pin 16 (removing overcurrent protection) and the board still works. I need just a little more voltage to get 2.9ghz stable.

Well i have a special Barton ;)
It is a Mobile Barton 1867 Mhz @ 1,45V standard vcore.
So i hoped to push him @ 3 Gig, but nada so far.
It is prime stable till 2200 MHz @ 1,45 Vcore but then i need loads of Vcore to push him higher.
Well, my abit will be here tomorrow, just got the info, hope this will make it better.

With a stepping named "AQUCA", what manufacturing process do the chips use?

Do they have nine layers like T-Bred B's, or eight like T-Bred A's?
