What is the three pin connector on the XTX?

Looks like a digital signal to me. 0.03v is good enough to be LOW and 5v looks to be HIGH. I have no idea where that would leave Pin1.

Kallenator do you mind taking measurements (ground) of those pins when running 3D, or in standby? If it changes it might tell us something.

I measured them on standby, il measure under load when I get home from school.

shadowmage - unless you touch the contacts to more than one point at once.

This is really doing my head... < 1600XT has a PAL/NTSC jumper with cap at the front of the card.. the 1800GTO and up has a 3 pin connector at the back of the card with no cap placed...

I seriously doubt it would have anything to do with PAL/NTSC as it isn't placed at a logical place for it... power -> processing -> display... so a connector which could control PAL/NTSC doesn't seem in place where you control the cards power... right..?

do ati not release datasheets?

have u measured the voltages when running the fan at different speeds?

maybe the jumper controls fan speed, just a thought though..

lol, but thanks a lot for testing anyways. They are starting to bug me these little pins. I mean the obvious thing to say is a jumper, but whos gonna try jumping something on their $500 card? I am not made of money so I'll just stick to observation :D

I got some interesting numbers, x1900xtx

Load:
middle pin: 3.5, MM set to 200m
1 side: 5.05V, MM set to 20V
other side: nothing

Idle:
middle pin: nothing
1 side: 5.05V, MM set to 20V
other side: nothing

im lost.. it seems like a jumper.. is that thing related to the voltage table overdrive thingy??? or you can manually switch the voltage using a jumper? well i guess its some of the most common questions you guys has to be doing to yourselves.. hehe...

that thing could be used for some kind of different cooler???... guessing

i'm gonna guess that 1-2 is the same as no jumpers but 2-3 does something else.

looking at pics of x1k series cards though, there's a missing jumper header on the x1600

default positions for the x1800xt, x1800xl, x1800gto, x1600xt, x1900gt, x1900xt, and x1900xtx are all the same, no jumpers

x1600pro 512 has the jumper in the 2-3 position, as does the 256mb version

would an x1600pro user please change the jumper position and see what happens? it shoudlnt be dangerous at all considering that there are versions of the same pcb with the same chips (with minor internal differences) with each positon

I don't think it does control memory, tbh. My X1800XT has no jumpers on it, but it does have those three pins.

Perhaps rather. it's the memory controller? Having the pins there gives you the 128bit controller (or 256bit ringbus) and removing them gives us 512bit?

If you're looking at the missing X1600XT pins, the way they are arranged indicates it's set to 2-3 by default. The way the pins 1-2 are seperated, and 2-3 not...

I just got a idea that this might be to reset the card Bios?

no, resetting a card's bios would do nothing because there is no volatile memory on them because there are no settings to save and erase, hence no battery.


this could be a bios flash protection jumper, i've seen that on a couple HIS cards

i'll have to check my x1600xt's at some point
