The known mod is only able to increase vdimm. You can't decrease vdimm with the exact same mod. As I said you have to change it slightly. Just had a look at the datasheet and the guide and if you are interested, I could tell you what to do. ;)
The no-booting issue could easily have been directly related to your vdimm-mod, as the mod slightly increases vdimm even when turned to full resistance. Perhaps the vdimm was about 2.9V or higher after doing the vdimm mod. Perhaps it was just too much. I know that those Infineon chips tend to get hot as hell when fed with too much voltage.

It had something to do with the chips [CE-5]. Throwing in other modules booted up fine, except those ones. I tested out another CE-5 pair and had similar problems. It's just a damn fussy board.

No hardware mods for me.. I don't really need less or more, so I'm good. Thanks though.

Hehe, no problem. Still interesting to hear. Perhaps those CE-5/6 do actually have problems with VDimm > ~2.9V. Unfortunately I don't own CE-5/6 based RAMs. :) I would've loved to do further research.

I dunno really. If I remember correctly, bumping it past 2.8v did help a -tad-, but not much. I'll have to give it another test in the coming days.
